As PBR Atlantic quickly approaches the conclusion of our first year of operations we take this opportunity to review the successes of the players from our region. As a staff we were well aware of the talent that existed in Atlantic Canada, however historically lacked the platform to assist players in pursuing collegiate level baseball opportunities south of the border. PBR Atlantic was launched with the goal of changing the baseball culture and landscape in our part of the country. Despite the world looking drastically different and therefore limiting our reach due to COVID-19, we did exactly that. PBR Atlantic is very proud to highlight the 10 players from Atlantic Canada who will be hitting the field as college baseball players in the fall of 2021.

DIVISION III

RYAN TRENHOLM (NS) OF / RHP / ELMIRA COLLEGE, NY (NCAA) / 2021

Report: Trenholm is a fundamentally sound outfielder who combines good speed and high efficiency route running to track down fly balls with the best of them. He projects as a base hit guy that has the potential to set the table at the top or bottom of any lineup. Trenholm has also been awarded the Elmira Scholars Program Scholarship. His work ethic and desire to learn is a major asset that’ll translate well as he continues to develop at Elmira.

DYLAN SMITH (NS) SS / 2B / CORNING COMMUNITY COLLEGE, NY (JUCO) / 2021

Report: Smith is your prototypical middle infielder who does a lot of things well. He has good footwork and clean hands in the field, as well as a simple compact swing with quick hands that are direct to the ball. We’re excited to see how his skillset progresses as he add size and strength to his game, and what position he sticks at with Corning.

DIVISION II

CAMILO RIESGO (NS) C / SUSSEX COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE, NJ (JUCO) / 2021

Report: Riesgo possesses all the intangibles you want from a bulldog catcher behind the plate. He’s short, stocky and strong. He receives and blocks well, and has plus footwork to go along with an accurate and strong arm to control the running game. He has sneaky pop in the bat and has the ability to develop into a catcher who can contribute at Sussex just as much offensively as he will defensively.

BRETON BUTTON-SIBLEY (NS) 1B / 3B / MONROE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, NY (JUCO) / 2021

Report: Sibley is an absolute beast and is an imposing figure stepping to the plate. He has the unique ability to hit for power to all fields, but isn’t your prototypical swing and miss guy. He has a strong work ethic and is a student of hitting. Monroe is getting a middle of the order stick who can lock down first base with good footwork and a solid glove.

Tanner MacLean (PEI) LHP / 1B / SULLIVAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE, NY (JUCO) / 2021

Report: MacLean is exactly what you look for in an arm. He’s a lanky lefty with a corky but repeatable delivery. He has good command of three pitches, all of which have movement. He’s a guy we anticipate could step in and contribute to a staff as either a starter or reliever at the next level. With the added structure of a collegiate training and throwing program, MacLean has the makings of a sneaky add for Sullivan as his velocity should continue to rise.

DIVISION I

LOGAN HARVEY (NS) C / MARSHALLTOWN COMMUNITY COLLEGE , IA (JUCO) / 2021

Report: Marshalltown liked the catchers in Atlantic Canada so much they decided to take two. Harvey is refined behind the plate as he receives, blocks, and throws it well. He’s a defensive minded catcher who has really come into his own at the plate. Another left handed hitter, Harvey has great barrel through the zone action, and can also run a little bit. He will continue to benefit from added size and strength as he starts his collegiate career.

HUNTER CANNING (NS) RHP / panola college, tx (juco) / 2020

Report: Canning is a right handed pitcher who's a good mix of size and strength on the bump. He has fluid arm actions, and an easy delivery. His fastball velocity continues to tick up and is paired with a sharp breaking curveball and a changeup with late arm side run. Canning will fill up the zone, and although may not have your standard swing and miss stuff, should generate weak contact as a member of the Panola staff.

Duncan Picketts (pei) C / 1B /

MARSHALLTOWN COMMUNITY COLLEGE , IA (JUCO) / 2021

Report: Picketts is a dream behind the dish, as he can hit, run and throw. He has a plus arm that can instantly shutdown any running game. From an offensive perspective, he’s a lefty bat that can hit in the middle of a lineup with considerable pop. As if that wasn’t enough, Picketts can swipe bags, handle a pitching staff and is a leader behind the plate. Marshalltown has a very toolsy catcher coming their way.

NOAH BOUTILIER (NS) SS / 2B /

PANOLA COLLEGE, TX (JUCO) / 2020

Report: Boutilier is a vacuum on the infield, who has the versatility, hands, footwork and arm to play second, short or third. With the stick, he has both great plate coverage and discipline, and makes solid contact to all fields. Panola is getting a proven winner and leader who should contribute both with his glove and his bat.

NATHAN BOUTILIER OF / PRATT COMMUNITY COLLEGE, KS (JUCO) / 2020

Report: Boutilier is the ultimate team-first guy who will make an immediate impact at Pratt. He projects as a steady corner outfielder who attacks balls well and generates a lot of momentum in his throwing. He’s added noticeable size and strength to his frame which will help translate from a solid line drive hitter to a dangerous gap to gap guy. Boutilier is a headsy gamer who does all the little things to help his team win.
