New York Games: Southern-Tier Position Player Analysis

The New York Games took place July 7-9, hosted in Rochester NY - allowing over 180 high-level NYS baseball players the chance to be seen on a larger platform. Over 70 colleges and a handful of MLB scouts made their way to Rochester in hopes of uncovering a hidden Gem. Three players have already committed to D1 programs due to their high-end performance at our event and many more are taking visits and weighing college offers.
Here's a look at the Southern-Tier position player reports from our New York Games:
Southern Tier Team
Zach Granger, OF, Horseheads HS, NY (2017) Stands at 6-foot-1, 160 pounds, with a lean athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft hands, throws with a high 3/4 arm slot, plays through the ball nicely and has accuracy on the target. At the plate his setup is open stance, short stride, with a nice back load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging on a level plane, and has high finish with nice extension through the ball. Zach is a solid outfielder and hitter who shows a lot of potential to progress to the next level in college.
Jake Burlingame, OF, Horseheads HS, NY (2016) Stands at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with a clean loose action, arm is very strong with lots of carry, plays through the ball nicely and has accuracy on the target. At the plate his setup is relaxed and very balanced, short stride, with a smooth load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging on a level plane with long/full extension through the ball, with an athletic balance throughout the whole swing. Jake is a plus outfielder and powerful hitter who shows a lot of potential to progress to the next level in college.
Evan Threehouse, OF, Olean HS, NY (2016) Stands at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, with a lean athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with a low 3/4 arm slot, plays through the ball. At the plate his setup is open stance, no stride, with a nice back load. He has a short path to the ball, swinging on a level plane, and has high finish with nice extension through the ball. Evan is a solid outfielder and hitter who shows some potential to progress to the next level in college.
Matt Kruszka, OF/INF, Gowanda HS, NY (2017) Stands at 5-foot-7, 155 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, fields the ball deep, throws with an athletic multi slot, arm slot, plays through the ball, and is very accurate. At the plate his setup is open stance, short stride, with a nice back load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging with a little uphill tilt, and has high finish with nice extension through the ball. Matt is a solid utility player and hitter who shows a lot of potential to progress to the next level in college.
Ben Monti, C, Gowanda HS, NY (2016) Stands at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds, with an athletic body build. He is a solid catcher with fast footwork and has a clean transfer, when throwing he cuts off and recoils after the throw, and is very accurate. At the plate his setup is athletic, short stride, with a nice back load. His hands are long, over the plate, swinging on a level plane with long/full extension through the ball, and has high finish with nice extension through the ball. Ben is a solid catcher and hitter who shows a lot of potential to progress to the next level in college.
Ryan Williams, INF, Kenmore East HS, NY (2017) Stands at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with average high school hands, throws with a high 3/4 arm slot, plays through the ball nicely. At the plate his setup is relaxed and very balanced, no stride, with a nice back load. He has a short path to the ball, swinging on a somewhat upper tilt, and has high finish with nice extension through the ball. Ryan is an infielder and hitter who shows some potential to progress to the next level in college.
Brett Migliore, MIF, Wellsville HS, NY (2016) Stands at 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with a clean loose action, arm is very strong across the diamond, plays through the ball nicely, with lots of range, and has accuracy on the target. At the plate his setup is relaxed and very balanced, short stride, with a smooth load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging on a level plane with a mid-section finish with extension through the ball, with an athletic balance throughout the whole swing. Brett is a plus infielder and powerful hitter who shows a lot of potential to progress to the next level in college.
Chris Gresham, 1B, St. Mary’s HS, NY (2016) Stands at 6-foot-2, 237 pounds, with a strong body build. At the plate his setup is open stance, short stride, with a nice back load. His hands are long, over the plate, swinging with long/full extension through the ball, and some uphill tilt with a high finish. Fielding he looked good through the ball and receiving throws from the position players, but do to tightness didn’t throw in the showcase. Chris is a first baseman and hitter who shows some potential to progress to the next level in college.
Troy Hattala, C, Oarchard Park HS, NY (2017) Stands at 5-foot-9, 175 pounds, with an athletic body build. Troy was a catcher who throws with cut off and after the throw recoils. He receives the ball with smooth, soft hands and has a clean transfer. At the plate setup is relaxed and balanced, short stride, with a back load. His path to the ball is short, level plane, with a mid-section finish. Troy is a catcher who shows some potential to progress to the next level in college.
Allen Murphy, MIF, Bolivar-Richburg HS, NY (2016) Stands at 5-foot-9, 145 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has an aggressive approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with a clean loose action, arm is very strong across the diamond, plays through the ball nicely, with lots of range, and has accuracy on the target. At the plate he has an open stance, short stride, with a smooth load. Short path to the ball, short extension, with a high finish through the ball. Allen is a plus infielder and a good hitter who shows a lot of potential to progress to the next level in college.
Brady Thomas, MIF, Solanco HS, PA (2016) Stands at 5-foot-9, 175 pounds, with an athletic body build. He had smooth, soft hands, worked through the ball nice, throwing with a high 3/4 arm slot, showing lots of range and accurate across the diamond. At the plate setup is relaxed and balanced, short stride, a quick load. His hands are long, over the plate, swinging with some uphill tit, mid-section finish through the ball. Brady is an infielder player and hitter who shows some potential to progress to the next level in college.
Manny Montes, INF, Grand Island HS, NY (2016) Stands at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has soft, smooth, quick hands, who plays through the ball nicely. Shows a lot of range with accuracy across the diamond. At the plate his setup is open stance, long stride, with a nice back load. He has a short path to the ball, swinging on a level plane, and has high finish with nice extension through the ball. Zach Penksa, MIF, St. Mary’s HS, NY (2017) Stands at 5-foot-8, 155 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has soft, smooth hands, who plays through the ball nicely. Throws with a low 3/4 arm slot and throws with accuracy across the diamond. At the plate setup is relaxed and balanced, short stride, with a nice back load. He has a short path to the ball, swinging with some uphill tilt, and has high finish with nice extension through the ball. Jacob Victor, OF, St. Francis HS, NY (2016) Stands at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with a high 3/4 arm slot, throws with a cut off/recoil action, plays through the ball nicely and has accuracy on the target. At the plate his setup is closed stance, short stride, with a smooth load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging with some uphill tilt with mid-section finish through the ball. Jacob is an outfielder and powerful hitter who shows a lot of potential to progress to the next level in college.
Danny Madden, 1B/OF, Corning HS, NY (2016) Stands at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with a high 3/4 arm slot, throws with a cut off/recoil action, plays through the ball nicely and has accuracy on the target. At first base looked good fielding through the ball and receiving throws from the position players with a plus arm across the diamond to third base. At the plate setup is relaxed and balanced, short stride, with a smooth load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging with long/full extension through the ball, with a high finish through the ball. Danny is a first baseman/outfielder and powerful hitter who shows a lot of potential to progress to the next level in college.
Griff DeMayo, 1B/OF, Hamburg HS, NY (2016) Stands at 6-foot-0, 165 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with a low 3/4 arm slot, throws with a cut off/recoil action, plays through the ball nicely. At first base looked good fielding through the ball and receiving throws from the position players. At the plate setup is relaxed and balanced, short stride, with a back load. He has a short path to the ball, swinging with some uphill tilt, and has high finish with nice extension through the ball. Griff is a first baseman/outfielder and hitter who shows some potential to progress to the next level in college.
Sean Harris, OF, Portville HS, NY (2016) Stands at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds, with an athletic body build. Zack Ryan, INF, Olean HS, NY (2016) Stands at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, with an athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with an over the top action, arm is very strong across the diamond, plays through the ball nicely, and has accuracy on the target. Jake Zurat, C, Williamsville-North HS, NY (2017) Stands at 5-foot-9, 190 pounds, with an athletic body build. Jake was a catcher who throws with cut off and after the throw recoils.
