Dan Cevette
New York Scouting Director
Name: CJ Moore
High School: Suffield Academy
Position: OF
College Commitment: Lamar
PBR New York sat down with Suffield Academy standout CJ Moore for a little question and answer session.
PBR: How did you prepare yourself for this baseball season?
Moore: Preparing for the 2014 season I worked a lot on my mental side of the game.Over the summer I faced top level pitching in the Metropolitan classic, so I wanted to work on hitting balls in the zone and swinging at pitches I could handle, unlike previous years where I would get myself out.
PBR: What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?
Moore: One of my strengths as a player is my raw speed, as a hitter I feel all I have to do is make contact when the count is not in my favor and put pressure on the defense with my wheels. Another strength is my bat speed. I feel like I never need to gear up early, which makes me very comfortable against better pitchers. My weaknesses are my lack of experience and reps. Playing three sports nearly all my life makes it tough to be very consistent right now. I am looking forward to just concentrating on baseball and developing into the player I know I can become.
PBR: You are creating some draft buzz, tell us about that.
Moore: The draft has been an exciting and fun time for me, my family and friends. A lot of the teams are saying top 10 rounds but you just never know what will happen so I am not setting my hopes too high.
PBR: Tell us why you picked Lamar.
Moore: I picked Lamar because they offered me a full scholarship which is extremely rare in baseball, also the team made me feel comfortable and the coaching staff was great, me and my dad enjoyed our time there. There is also the chance I could play right away as a FR. so that is exciting.
PBR: Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
Moore: I still enjoy watching cartoons
