What we liked: The 2-way prospect has present strength and athleticism in a 5-foot-10, 155 lb frame while flashing some quick twitch in the actions. Colten started the day off with a 7.14 60 time putting him above average for his class. At the plate Colten has strong hands getting the barrel into the zone quickly while staying on plane yielding a peak exit velocity of 87 MPH; the Blast Motion metrics show a strong baseline for projection at the plate (Hand Speed 25 MPH/ Rot Acc: 28.5 G/ Bat Speed: 69 MPH/ On Plane: 75% Avg). From the mound the delivery was controlled with a repeatable release and follow through. The fastball is heavy and sat 75 -77 MPH coming from a high 3/4 slot giving him the ability to get down hill and ride it through the top of the zone (20" Induced vertical). The curveball was down out of the zone on this day but has the makings of a swing and miss pitch with a near 12-6 shape and tight break getting up to 10" of vertical drop / 3" horizontal. We are looking forward to getting another look this summer at the JR State Games as his stock should only continue to rise.
