Rookie Review
What we liked: The 6-foot-1, 175 lb 2-way prospect has advanced feel and athleticism in the actions. Defensively the glove is soft with quick, clean transfers while playing through the ball with pace; the arm strength is there while flashing the ability to get the throw off from multiple angles. Will put together a mature round of BP repeatedly barreling the ball through the middle and pull side (73% Sweet Spot). He stays in rhythm through the load & stride getting the foot down on time, + hand speed into the zone generating easy bat speed (71 MPH) that yielded a peak exit velocity of 88 MPH / 82 MPH AVG with a max distance 322 ft. Will's athleticism shined on the mound as well working uptempo through the repeatable delivery; the arm action is on the shorter side out of the glove getting up quick to a natural 3/4 slot. All 3 pitches come in with +movement and tunnel out of a 4'9" release height. FB: 78-79 MPH / 1945 RPM / 23.6" IVB / 14" horizontal run; sweeping CB: 63-64 MPH / 1555 RPM / -4" vertical drop / 16.7" horizontal; Heavy Changeup 70-71 MPH w/ 14" arm side fade. Will is poised for a big spring and will be an exciting to follow through the summer.
