2.18.19
A strong put together 5-foot-7, 175 pounds. Ran a 7.56 60 yard dash. Offensively- Starts from a slightly open stance with loose hands. Quick to the hitting zone with natural bat whip. Finishes in a upright finish, balanced throughout the swing. Displayed some pop for his size during the hitting portion. Exit velocity was 90 MPH. Defensively- Displayed active footwork and a quick transfer and release from a ¾ arm slot. Top velocity across the diamond was 78 MPH. Projected as a 2B at the next level. The 2021 is strong and displayed impressive bat speed for his size. The bat will get attention and is a must follow going forward.
Campus Series St. Bonaventure (July 31, 2018) Stands 5-foot-7, 155-pounds from a smaller build, ran an impressive 4.2 home-to-first. Slightly open stance in the box, high knee lift for timing, hands are loose, short to the ball, barrel is mostly level, line-drive approach, high end bat-speed at 90 mph. SS fields the ball from behind, center of his body. Clean funnel from a mid ¾ slot.
Preseason - West (February 19, 2018)
At the plate he uses an upright stance, bat waggle on the pre-pitch, long back load. On the pitch barrel flattens out early on a long path, full extension on the finish, 87 mph exit velocity off a tee (up 4 since Sept.) showing signs of some power projection. Defensively, choppy to the ball, fields out in front, average transfer, throws from a high 3/4 slot at 72 mph across the diamond.
Western NY ASG (September 24, 2017)
Wiry 5-foot-7 150 pound middle infielder who hits from the right side. Offensively- Slightly open setup with some pre-pitch bat waggle before sliding hands back off his shoulder. Also incorporates a knee-to-belt leg kick; when on time he's able to get the barrel out and have a mix of line drives and flyballs. Exit velocity was 79 MPH, down from his 83 earlier in the summer. Defensively- Hands work well out in front of the body; athletic actions into the ball. Uses a secondary shuffle step on forehands; could benefit from one aggressive step and letting it go across the diamond. Arm strength was 72 MPH, up 2 MPH from July.
Campus Series-Canisius (July 5, 2017)
Rumley stands in at 5-foot-6, 145-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.53 home to first. Offensively- Sets up square to the pitcher with a narrow stance with his feet inside shoulder width. Shows a vertical body holding his bat in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a knee raise in to stride forward while his hands move back slightly to get into his hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing his hips and getting whole body frame involved in the swing. Shows quick hands to the zone with a level bat path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side during batting practice round. Recorded an exit velocity of 83 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork to the baseball. Clean fielding mechanics getting the ball into the chest with a quick transition to the throwing position. Whole fielding process could be quicker but will come with more development. Moves well left/right and in on the run with accurate throws. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 70 MPH. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a simple side step into a high leg raise above the hip crease. Breaks down hell with good separation into a high ¾ release point. Could engage lower half into the delivery with a better follow through to get in a good fielding position. Will come with more strength and development. Fastball range was 70-71 MPH and peaked at 71 MPH showing cut action. Curveball was 60-62 MPH with 12/6 action. Overall a young talented prospect to keep an eye on at future events.
