Prep Baseball Report

Inside the Recruitment: '15 C Chris Sackett commits to Ohio Dominican

PBR: Why did you choose Ohio Dominican?

Sackett: I chose Ohio Dominican because it was close enough to home but just far enough away. I love campus and the guys on the team and I felt like it was a great fit for me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Sackett: I was considering Lake Erie College, Marietta, Heidelberg, and Baldwin Wallace.

PBR: Where did Ohio Dominican first see you? How did your relationship develop with Coach Page?

Sackett: Ohio Dominican first saw me at TPG last June. Coach Antonides contacted me later in the summer and I participated in their camp and that's where I first talked to Coach Page and it really just took off after that with a few visits.

PBR: Coach Page has made Ohio Dominican a baseball powerhouse. What will it be like to play under the legendary coach?

Sackett: It will be very exciting. Coach Page knows the game very well and it excites me to be able to learn more about the game from him and develop as a player under his guidance.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Sackett: The coaches expect me to work hard and prove I can be a contributor to the team. With a few senior catchers graduating this year, they expect a tough battle and hard work from every catcher to prove they should be the guy behind the plate and I'm ready for the challenge.

PBR: What summer team do you play on and how has travel baseball helped your development as a player?

Sackett: I play for Cincinnati Baseball Club (CBC 18U). Travel baseball has allowed me to play against very great players and develop as a player. I've had great coaches who have taught me the game and let me become a better a better player.

PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Sackett: The most memorable experience was definitely the first game of the season and my team played together for the first time and beat a very good Midland Tomahawks team with many D1 commits.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Sackett: My dad and older brother, Darren Sackett, have had the most impact. My dad is always willing to go throw BP to me or toss with me and spend countless hours making me better. My brother was always there to push me to be better. He was there to make me better and give me the competition to be the best I can be. With him only being a year older, it was always a competition to be better than him which pushed me everyday.

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season?

Sackett: 313 BA. 413 OBP. 67 AB. 21 H. 6 2B. 10 RBI's. 2 SB.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Sackett: The toughest pitcher I've face is either Chandler Day or Cameron Varga. Varga has a very sharp curveball which drops off the table and is almost impossible to hit at the high school level. Day has a great fastball with amazing movement and made it that much harder to see coming in at that speed.
