Inside the Recruitment: '15 INF Zach Dickson commits to Heidelberg

Zach Dickson, INF, Newark HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Heidelberg?

Dickson: I chose Heidelberg because of the championship caliber program they run there. The coaching staff is second to none and they are always pushing their players to be better. Also the sports management program I want to major in is very good.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Dickson: Besides Heidelberg, I was also considering Muskingum and Mount Union.

PBR: With Coach Fitzgerald becoming the new Head Coach at the end of the season.  How does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?

Dickson: It feels great to become apart of his first recruiting class. He is a great coach and brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the table. I am very excited to get on campus and to be apart of his program.

PBR:  You have recently jumped up on the radar screen in the recruiting process.  What can attribute to your recent success?

Dickson: I can attribute it to hard work. I didn't have the best summer statistically but I continued to work hard and push myself to become an overall better player. I also performed well at the Unsigned Senior Games which is where a lot of the schools I was in contact with saw me compete for the first time.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Dickson: This summer, I am playing for the 18u Licking County Athletics. Overall, the experiences of traveling and playing against some of the best players in the state will be memories that I will hold onto forever.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Dickson: My parents have had the greatest impact on my baseball career. They are always willing to go on weekend trips and go to each and every game to support me. From a young age, they taught me to have a strong work ethic, and I feel like that is a big reason why I am where I am today.

PBR: What were your stats this spring?

Dickson: Avg: .313 OBP: .410 Hits: 22 RBI: 6 Runs: 19

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?

Dickson: Our league, the OCC-Ohio, is so deep that it is hard to just choose one. Some guys that stood out last year were, Logan Giddings from Pickerington North, Chase Antle from Grove City, and Clay Surrell from Pickerington Central.
