Inside the Recruitment: '16 LHP Drew Kline commits to Findlay

PBR: Why did you choose Findlay?

Kline: I really liked the philosophy of the coaches and their direction for the baseball program. Also, I loved the feel of the school and campus itself. Not too big, not too small, with great people and lots to do.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Kline: I had visited Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. I was originally interested in going further south (out of state), but Findlay seemed like a great fit once I made my visit.

PBR: Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?

Kline: I think they first saw me last season, maybe at Buckeye Elite. The head coach is newer to the program. I originally had my main contact with the pitching coach. During my recruitment visit, I was able to get to know the coaching staff and really respected their views on the game and on what I could bring to their program. I am looking forward to working with the whole staff, but especially my future pitching coach.

PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Kline: A huge role, I hope. I want to be able to contribute to the Varsity roster from day one. It will be a lot of work to do that, but I feel that I can be a big asset on the mound. I also hope to get some time to show what I can do in the outfield and in the batting line up as well.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Kline: My Dad 100%. He played baseball all his life and was also a lefty pitcher. We share a love of the game, and he has helped me develop my pitching skills over the years.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Kline: Last year I played with the Boys of Summer. This coming summer I will play for the Lake Erie Warhawks. Both are great organizations. I have played for many awesome teams over the years and have love and respect for all of my teammates and coaches and made a lot of life-long friends. The best experience I had during summer ball was getting to pitch at Progressive Field. It was a great moment.

PBR: What were your stats last season?

Kline: I am not really big on stats, I focus more on performance. I know that I had a winning percentage on the mound, but it isn't about just me, it is about the whole team.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced?

Kline: I wish I knew his name. It was during a game against the Indiana outlaws, I was facing him as a batter and the opposing pitcher. The 7 inning regulation game went 10 innings. He was great and maintained his composure on the mound.
