Andrew McFadden, OF, Manchester HS, Class of 2017

PBR: Why did you choose Earlham?

McFadden:  The school was just the right fit for me. It's a great school academically and I also loved the campus as well as the baseball program.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

McFadden:  Marietta, Heidelberg, Lake Erie

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?

McFadden:  They saw me play first at the Ohio Elite/Longhorns showcase. The assistant coach started texting and calling me and it went from there

PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?

McFadden:  The coaching staff expects me to work hard to compete for an outfield spot, likely a corner outfielder.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

McFadden:  My dad has had the biggest impact on me. He started off pitching whiffle balls to me when I was really young and I fell in love with the game. He has supported me my whole career and I'm extremely grateful for everything he's done for me. I wouldn't be the same player without him.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

McFadden:  I play for the Ohio Longhorns (Demarino) in the summer. The most exciting moment this last summer was winning three games in one day of a tournament against three teams that we were kind of the underdog against.

PBR: What were your stats last season?

McFadden:  Spring: .447 BA, 8 doubles, 9 RBI's, 24 runs, 1.08 OPS.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced?

McFadden:  Either Jake Vance (Ohio State) or my high school teammate, Dalton Earich (Youngstown State). They both throw hard with really good command. It seemed impossible to square anything up on either.
