Nolan Clegg, OF, Toronto HS, Class of 2018

PBR: Why did you choose Ohio State?

Clegg: I've been a lifelong Buckeye fan and the resources they have academically and athletically are amazing. It just felt right.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Clegg: Other schools I was considering were Ohio University, Pitt, Xavier, Purdue, and Virginia Tech.

PBR: Where did Coach Beals first see you?  How did your relationship develop with them?

Clegg: I believe it was 2018 underclassmen games at Ohio State a couple summers ago and the relationship grew the last 2 years.

PBR: You are only a junior, how important was it to get your commitment out of the way so early?  Are you finished with the recruiting process?

Clegg: I wanted to get it out of the way so I could concentrate of school and baseball the next two years. And yes the recruiting process is over for me and I can't wait to be a Buckeye.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable experience?

Clegg: I've played the two previous summers with Ohio Elite (Valentine) now the Bo Jackson Elite 2018. The most memorable experience has been meeting and playing with great players and coaches. They'll be lifelong friends.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Clegg: I wasn’t real sure what to expect since it started when I was pretty young but my high school coach Brian Perkins and summer coach, Cory Valentine helped tremendously with the process.

PBR: What were your stats last spring?

Clegg: I only got 58 plate appearances because of a broken hand but I hit .544 with 25 hits, 2 HR, 15 RBI, 1 triple and 8 doubles.

PBR: Who is the best pitcher that you have ever faced?

Clegg: I haven't had to face either of these guys but Nick Thwaits and Cole Niekamp are the best pitchers I've played with.
