North Royalton's Adam Vasil has been busy this offseason

North Royalton catcher Adam Vasil's stock is rising fast.  The 40th rated player in the class of 2013 has been in touch with numerous Division 1 schools around the state.

Vasil, who attended PBR’s Top Prospect Showcase in Dayton and the Silver Spikes Prospect Clinic in Dublin, believes that the events were good ones.  “There were some of the best players from all over the state at that one event. It is interesting to see how you stack up against other guys from across the state, rather than the kids who I’ve been playing against forever in Northeast Ohio, where everyone knows everyone.”

Numerous college coaches and scouts were in attendance at both events.  Adam says, “After the clinic I got numerous emails, questionnaires, and invitations to tour college campuses.”

The junior catcher is being heavily recruited by the following schools: Ohio State, Miami of Ohio, Wright State, Toledo, Central Michigan, and Ashland University.

Like any other top player around the state, Adam is hoping to make his college decision early into his senior year.  Vasil states, “The most important criteria I’m looking for when selecting a program is my opportunity to play as much as possible and a great coaching staff.”

Adam also excels in the classroom with a 3.7 GPA.   “I really would like a school that has a strong sports medicine or sports management program.”

Behind the plate, he has shown a velocity of 80 mph with carry. His pop time in the range of 2.04-2.07. Last spring, he threw out 11 of 25 base runners attempting to steal. Click here to watch Vasil's video.

Vasil feels his biggest asset is his mental approach to the game.  “Being a catcher, I love being a leader and controlling the game. The thing I pride myself most on is my ability to call a game behind the plate. There is no better feeling than having a coach tell you to go run the show because he trusts you handling the pitchers.”

During the summer, Adam plays for the North Coast Gladiators.
