The second round of the Division 1 Central District Tournament opened up tonight with No. 2 seed Olentangy Orange taking on Worthington Kilbourne.  The Pioneers came into the game ranked No. 10 in the latest PBR poll.

After stranding the bases loaded in the first inning, the Pioneers would score first when Alec McCurry hit a deep double to left field to score Colin Shephard.  Paul Trick (pictured and Gardner Webb commit) and Brady Harris (Valpo commit) would follow with walks.  Cody McCague would later hit a single to score McCurry and Trick, to give Orange a 3-0 advantage.

After a scoreless third inning by both teams, Orange was able to light up the scoreboard again.  Trick would lead off the inning with a single down the third base line.  Two pitches later he would cross home plate after a stolen base and a throwing error by the catcher.

The inning would continue with another walk by Harris and McCague.  This would force the Wolves to pull starting pitcher Brian Sommers for TJ Valentino.  Unfortunately for Kilbourne, Tyler Johnson and Nicholas Mancini kept the momentum going by hitting back to back singles to run up the score to 6-0.

While the offense was getting going, Trick was cruising through the Wolves line-up.  By attacking the strike zone early in the count allowing and mixing his pitches up well.

After notching another run in the fifth inning, Orange would look to end the game early.  Kilbourne’s defense continued to falter with walk and an error to start the inning.  The Pioneers touched the plate three more times to end the game with a 10-0 run-rule.

Trick finished the game throwing all 6 innings, giving up just four hits and striking out six batters.  He also led the hitting attack going 2 for 2, with two walks and scoring three runs.

Sommers paced Kilbourne’s offense going 2 for 3 on the day.

Kilbourne finished their season 5-20.  While Olentangy Orange is now 24-3 and will play the winner of Zanesville and Tri-Valley next Monday at New Albany in a District Semi-Final match-up.
