Hudson – In a Division I district semifinal game the No.1 seed Walsh Jesuit Warriors came away victorious over the No.3 seed Wadsworth Grizzlies 9-3 on Monday night.

The Warrior offense was on display as they pounded out 16 hits en route to their 25th win of the season. With the win, the Warriors remain undefeated and will play the No.2 seed Hudson Explorers on Tuesday night for the district championship.

Walsh would strike first as junior Azim Qadri led the bottom of the first inning off with a double to deep center.  One batter later junior Blake Jenkins would bring Qadri home on an RBI groundout.

Jenkins, the 21st ranked player in the 2015 class, would then get his second RBI of the game in the bottom of the third inning plating senior Nate Romans on a sacrifice fly.

Run support was not going to be an issue for Walsh junior starter Ty Shoaff. Shoaff, the 19th ranked player in the 2015 class and a Missouri commit held the Grizzly offense in check for the first five innings. He would allow only one hit during that span while striking out seven.

Walsh Jesuit added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Singles by junior Riley Minorik, senior Kyle Holdsworth and Jenkins’ third RBI of the game would end the night for Wadsworth starter Cameron Deemer. Deemer, a 2016 RHP threw 3.1 innings allowing five runs on eight hits. The Warriors were not done as two of the next four batters would knock home runs pushing the Warrior lead to six.

Shoaff would run into some trouble in the top of the sixth inning. Back to back walks combined with two defensive miscues gave Wadsworth some much needed momentum. Three runs for the Grizzlies would cut the Walsh lead to three. Shoaff would then give way to 2014 RHP Tim Benner. Benner, a Tiffin commit, would end the threat by getting a groundout.

Walsh would get those three runs back in their half of the sixth inning. Singles by juniors Dominic Mittiga, Connor Regan and Minorik got things going for the Warriors. The inning was capped off by a Holdsworth double scoring two runs.

Benner finished things off in the seventh inning striking out all three batters he faced to secure the 9-3 victory.

With the win Shoaff improves to 8-0 on the year. He finished the game allowing three runs on two hits over 5.2 innings of work. He walked three and struck out seven.

The Warriors return to Hudson on Tuesday evening to play No. 2 seed Hudson in the district championship.
