Greater Cincinnati – The No. 2 ranked Mason Comets played the Eisenhower Eagles from Shelby Township, Michigan in a game that lasted one hour and forty-five minutes with the Comets prevailing six to three in seven innings.

Mason sophomore RHP Rodney Hutchinson started the game and pitched four innings giving up two doubles and one run while striking out six. Hutchinson’s fastball was clocked between 82-86 mph. He used two different type of curveballs as his out pitches. Unsigned senior pitcher Jeremy Hilbert pitched a scoreless seventh, striking out one and showcasing a curve ball that sat between 59-63 mph and had a nice downward tilt.

Eisenhower starting pitcher Kyle Bruce went five and two-thirds innings keeping the Comets off balance with a fastball that sat between 75-78 mph and had late inside movement to right handed hitters.

Mason senior shortstop Conner Mcvey (Cincinnati recruit) wasn’t fooled though homering to left in his first at bat and later producing a two RBI double in the bottom of the 6th.

The game was closer than the score indicates. The Eagles were up 3 to 2 going into the 6th and would’ve been up more if it wasn’t for an outstanding diving catch in the top of the inning by junior outfielder Tyler Thamann.

In the bottom of the 6th, Mason junior outfielder TJ Dunn pinch hit with two out and Mason down 3-2 drilling a double to right center scoring unsigned senior second baseman Drew Johnson. Senior designated hitter Adam Quick drove a single to right scoring Dunn to put the Comets up for good.

Mason (5-0) hosts Lakota West (1-3) on Friday afternoon in Mason, Ohio
