PBR Spotlight Game: No. 13 Napoleon (D-II) at No. 19 Perrysburg (D-I)

PERRYSBURG, OH - Unsigned senior AJ Stockwell and Kent State University commit Zach Willeman matched eachother pitch-for-pitch in a 12-inning classic that ended in walk-off fashion as No. 19 Perrysburg (D-I) defeated No. 13 Napoleon (D-II), 1-0 in a battle of two of the top teams in NW Ohio and the Northern Lakes League.

In the 12th inning, Zach Ham led the bottom of 12th off with a hit-by-pitch and pinch runner Kaleb Mahler advanced to second after a strikeout and walk to junior Seth Durham to bring to the plate junior Connor Jordan.

The pinch hitter roped a walk-off double to deep left, scoring Mahler and giving the Yellow Jackets a huge NLL victory.

The two talented clubs were held scoreless through the first 11 innings thanks to some outstanding pitching on both side from MLB draft prospect Zach Willeman (pictured right) and unsigned senior AJ Stockwell (pictured left).

Willeman went eight innings allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out 15. Stockwell went nine innings allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out 13.

Perrysburg's next contest is against NLL foe, No. Anthony Wayne in the Division I OHSAA state tournament while Napoleon faces Toledo Rogers in the Division II OHSAA state tournament.

Notable performances in the game:

  • Zach Willeman, the Kent State recruit went eight innings allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out 15.
  • AJ Stockwell, the unsigned senior went nine innings allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out 13.
  • Mark Delas, the Toledo University commit picked up the win on the mound going two perfect innings striking out one.
  • Michael Gilliland, the junior MIF had two singles.
  • Wes Rickenburg, the BGSU recruit went two innings allowing just one hit while striking out four
  • Connor Jordan, the junior had the walk-off double in the 12th inning.
