PBR Spotlight Game: No. 18 Sherwood Fairview (D-III) at No. 4 Tinora (D-IV)

DEFIANCE, OH - The class of the Green Meadows ConferenceKody King vs Tinora clashed on Thursday as No. 18 Sherwood Fairview (D-III) and No. 4 Defiance Tinora (D-IV) battled for the top of the GMC mountain. The Apaches topped the Rams 4-2, capitalizing on Tinora errors and having a strong performance by sophomore Kody King (pictured right) on the hill.

Tinora jumped out on top of Fairview in the first innings as unsigned senior Reid Renollet reached via an error. Clay Pittman hit into a fielders choice, advancing to second on a stolen base. Unsigned senior Derek Drewes roped an RBI single to left (first of his three hits in the game).

Down 1-0, the Apaches scored two in the third inning. After two straight strikeouts by Tinora starter, Pittman, nine-hole hitter Alex Jackson reached thanks to an error. Another error put two on with two-outs. Junior Joe Macsay roped a single to left that scored Jackson. Another error by Tinora on a relay throw scored Erich Wolfrum as well to put Fairview on top 2-1.

The Apaches scored two huge insurance runs in the fifth. With one out, Jackson started it all for Fairview again. The freshman laced a single to right. After an out, Macsay reached on an error that could have possibly been called an out as you can see below.

After the error, a wildpitch scored Jackson and moved Macsay up a base. The fifth error by Tinora plated Macsay, putting Fairview on top 4-1.

Tinora wasn't done fighting however.

In the bottom of the seventh, after two outs, R. Renollet reached via the walk and Pittman singled to put the winning run on first, bringing to the plate Drewes (who was 3-for-3 entering the at-bat).

Fairview coach Andy Singer decided to go to his junior Hurler Macsay, bringing an end of the day on the mound for King.

King went 6.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out nine.

Macsay got on top of Drewes with a couple of fastballs and a curve to put the count at 1-2. On the 1-2 pitch, Drewes laced a ball to deep left-center that the Apache center-fielder ran down to give Fairview the victory.

Fairview has a home game against Stryker on Friday and then a tough match against No. 2 ranked Defiance (D-II) on Monday.

Tinora has the weekend off, with their next game being on the road at Antwerp.

  • Kody King, the 2016 prospect went 6.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out nine.
  • Derek Drewes, the unsigned senior had three singles, two RBIs and a stolen base.
  • Clay Pittman, (pictured right) the San Jacinto JUCO commit went the distance on the mound, allowing four runs on just two hits and zero walks while striking out 12.
  • Joe Macsay, reached base two out of hit three plate appearances, with a single and a run scored, also came in for the save.
  • Alex Jackson, the 2017 nine-hole hitter reached base 2-of-3 times, scoring twice.
