PBR Spotlight Game: No. 48 Lakota West takes down No. 37 Fairfield

By Matt Wallisa

When Fairfield and Lakota West matched up Monday, offense quickly became the theme of the day. When it was all said and done, 25 runs would cross the plate.

The game started with Lakota West pitcher Zach Farmer retiring the side, a sight not be seen for the rest of the game. In the bottom half, Fairfield's Tyler Duggan came out of the gate with some control issues but battled back and kept the Thunderbird's scoreless.

The second inning was a different story with West exploding for 5 runs as they took a 5-1 lead over Fairfield. Senior Michael Seaman began the scoring with a solo homer to start off the inning. Singles were the name of the game for the Thunderbirds as they collected four base hits as they mounted their offensive attack.

The runs continued to come in the 4th and 5th innings for Lakota West with a total of 9 runs between the 2 innings. The scoring started in the 4th with a towering home run from sophomore Grant Schuermann as he sent a ball deep to right field that left the park and gave the Thunderbirds a 9-5 lead.

Lakota West struck again in the fifth. Outfielder Troy Dombart hit a 2 run double that made the score 11-8. After two more singles and 3 more runners crossing the plate, the score moved to 14-8.

Lakota would plate 2 more across in the next inning giving them a 16-9 lead. In the bottom half, Lakota turned to Morgan Smith to close the door, and he did it successfully. This completed Lakota's series sweep of Fairfield.

The two teams will be back in action on Wednesday. Lakota West will be matching up against Oak Hills and Fairfield will be traveling to Lakota East.
