PBR Spotlight Game: No. 7 Brunswick falls to Medina

By Dan Machovina

MEDINA, OH – No.7 Brunswick HS went on the road today to face a scrappy Medina HS team.

With the wind blowing straight out at Medina HS, the stage was set for an offensive day and a little bit of unpredictability.

Going into the top of the sixth inning, the Medina Bees were ahead 6 to 5 until three Brunswick errors helped bring in four additional Medina runs, making the score 10 to 5.

On the day, the Brunswick defense committed a total of six errors with most of the miscues occurring during key moments of the game. Medina’s opportunistic offense continued to take advantage of Brunswick’s mistakes as they tacked runs on to the scoreboard.

Before it was all said and done, Brunswick attempted a late comeback but only managed to add one run making the score 10 to 6.

Brunswick unsigned senior LHP Gerry Salsbury did his best to keep Brunswick in the game. The talented lefty showed promise in the early innings, but fell behind batters and ran into trouble as the game progressed.

Meanwhile, Medina senior RHP Mike Ellenbest (Saginaw Valley State recruit) picked up the win with a strong performance on the mound.

Medina was led by senior right-fielder Geoff Hardy, who was 2 for 4, with two singles and three RBI’s. Junior catcher Brent Lary, who was 1 for 3 on the day, added to the cause with a deep homerun over the centerfield wall.

Brunswick was led offensively by junior Chaz Bova. The number six hitter was 2 for 2 with a homerun, triple, two-intentional walks, and two RBI’s.
