PBR Spotlight Game: No. No. 12 Walsh Jesuit vs. No. 10 St. Xavier

AVON- In game three of the Ohio Jesuit Cup the No. 12 ranked Walsh Jesuit Warriors faced the No. 10 ranked St. Xavier Bombers. The Bombers to an 11-1 victory in six innings to up their record to 15-3 on the season, while the Warriors fell to 19-4.

In the first game for the St. Xavier Bombers at All Pro Freight Stadium, the Bombers had on their hitting shoes. The Bombers scored 11 runs on 10 hits, while walking nine times.

The Bombers got on the board early as senior lead-off speedster Conor Hundley opened the bottom of the first with a single and stolen base. Two-hole hitter, pitcher Michael Hedgebeth followed with a single to put runners on the corners and a groundout to third plated the first run. Clean-up hitter junior Joe Gellenbeck had an RBI single to plate the second run before sophomore CJ Hilliard delivered a two-out RBI single to plate Gellenbeck to put the score at 3-0 after one inning.

St. Xavier added one in the second inning as Hundley got on with a one-out double, later scoring on an error by Walsh Jesuit's shortstop to up the score to 4-0.

Walsh Jesuit got on the board in the fourth inning with a lead-off double by senior Ohio Wesleyan recruit Drew Miletti. After an error by St. Xavier's second basemen put runners on first and second, sophomore Cassidy Brown scored Miletti on an RBI groundout to short to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The score stayed at 4-1 until the bottom of the 6th inning when Walsh Jesuit's pitchers couldn't find the strike zone and St. Xavier batters came through with clutch hits in a seven-run inning that ended the contest. There was a total of seven walks in the inning as well as three hits, the biggest being a two-run double by sophomore Jordan Mcdonough.

Senior lefty Hedgebeth went the distance on the mound for the Bombers allowing just 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk. Hedgebeth struck out 2 in his complete-game effort.
