PBR Spotlight game: No. 21 Fredericktown vs. No. 11 Cincinnati Maderia

XENIA - Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the No. 21 ranked Fredericktown Freddies erupted for three runs and held on, despite committing 3 errors,  to defeat the No. 11 ranked Madeira Mustangs 4-3 in Division III Regional Semi-Final contest played at Athletes-In-Action facility in Xenia. Spearheading the attack was a pair of hits from Caleb Phillips (one a homer). Junior LHP MATT SMITH  came on in the seventh to nail own the victory and record the save. Fredericktown (21-4) will play Hamilton Badin on Friday in Xenia, first pitch at 2:30. The Mustangs finish with a fine season 24-7 record.
 
SCOUTING NOTES
 
FREDERICKTOWN
 
Junior LHP/OF MATT SMITH Despite being hitless, showed good defense and arm strength. Is more corner type. As a hurler, throws from stretch  delivery, good arm action from 3/4 slot, fastball showing both arm side run and some cut action. Velocity ranged 85-88 mph. Spun a pair of slurvy type curves and had some feel.
 
MADEIRA
 
Top prospect ANDREW BENINTENDI (L-L 5-foot-10, 165-pounds, Class of 2013) continues to show excellent baseball skills.  Good hitting load and approach, lined a two strike single to opposite field gap and showed good baserunning skill. Hit ball hard in all at-bats. Also made excellent right field side gap catch from CF position.
 
Junior SS ZACH JANSEN (R-R 6-foot, 170-pounds) was hitless in game but showed squared stance with good load and extension. Ran 4.47 to first. Also pitched an inning, fastball velocity of 84-87 mph but struggled in this game with off speed.
 
Catcher TIMMY JAMES (R-R 5-foot-10, 160-pounds) good receiver with aggressive skills.

Unsigned senior OF JOE BODNAR (R-R 5-foot-9, 160-pounds) clubbed three hits in game, consistently squaring up the baseball.
