Q and A with 2013 Eastern Kentucky Commit: Brian Mroz (Centerville HS)

Brian Mroz, RHP, Centerville HS, Class of 2013

PBR: Why did you choose Eastern Kentucky?

Mroz: I choose Eastern Kentucky because when I visited their campus I really like it and I felt that Coach Stein and I shared similar goals. I also liked the fact that they just won their conference championship and that it was a good distance from home.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Mroz: Other Schools I was considering were Xavier, Western Carolina, and Bowling Green.

PBR: You have made your commitment very early.  Why did you chose to make your decision so soon and are you finished with the recruiting process?

Mroz: I made my decision so early because Eastern Kentucky was one of the schools that I really wanted to go to. They also offered me a good scholarship that I was afraid I wouldn’t get anywhere else, so I didn’t want to pass it up.

PBR:  You recently attended PBR’s Top Prospect Showcase.  How did that help you in the recruiting process?

Mroz: The PBR top prospect showcase helped me a lot! I had many schools contact me including Eastern Kentucky.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Mroz: My goals for my senior year are to have better stats than I did last year and to have a great time playing my last season with my teammates who many I have played with since third grade. My team goals are to win the GWOC central and then to win state!

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

Mroz: It feels fantastic! Ever since I saw that playing college baseball was a possibility for me, my dream was to play at the Division 1 level. It is a dream come true for me!

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Mroz: I played for the Dayton Classics during the summer and my most memorable experience was the CABA tournament up in Cleveland. Our team started off hot in the tournament and we started 8-0 and ended up finishing 3rd in the tournament. It was the most fun I have ever had playing in tournament!

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Centerville?
Mroz:  My high school stats last year were 38.1 innings pitched with an ERA of 0.55 and a WHIP of 0.69 with 43 strikeouts and a 4-0 record with 2 saves.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio ?

Mroz: There are so many good players in Ohio that it is too hard to pick just one person that I have faced as the best hitter. No one person stands out as the best batter I have faced. Ohio is one of the best states in the country for baseball so there a ton of good hitters that I have faced!
