Q and A with Kent State 2014 Commit: Evan White (Gahanna Lincoln HS)

Evan White, LHP/1B, Gahanna Lincoln, Class of 2014

PBR: Why did you choose Kent State ?

White: I chose Kent State because of the great coaching staff and great program that has been built up there.  As soon as I got to Kent I knew it was the university for me.  I'm excited to become a part of their program.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

White: Louisville, Wright State, Virginia Tech, and Indiana.

PBR:  Was being recruited as a 2-way player a major role in your decision?

White: It played a huge role in my decision.  I felt that Kent State gave me the best opportunity to pursue both.

PBR:  Where did the coaching staff first see you compete?

White: Great question.  I don't know the first time but they saw me play at PBR’s Midwest Futures Games this past summer.

PBR: You are going in to your junior season.  Why did you choose to make your decision so early?  Are you completely finished with the recruiting process or are you still open to other options?

White: I am completely finished with the recruiting process and happy with my decision.  I was able to go visit Kent State this fall and I fell in love with the campus and program.  The coaching staff is great.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

White: To be honest, I didn't really know what to expect.  I was hoping to not only learn as much as I could about the baseball program but also the other aspects of the campus.  It was definitely an exciting process.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

White: My dad and grandfather.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

White: The past two years I have played for the Columbus Cobras.  This coming year I will be playing for the Ohio Elite.  My most exciting experience playing summer ball would have to be beating the Cincinnati Flames in the championship game two years ago at Wright State.  I just remember that being a crazy/exciting game.

PBR: What were your stats last season for Gahanna Lincoln ?

White: I hit .472 with 28 RBI's.  On the mound I went 3-1.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Ohio?

White: Nick Jensen-Clagg
