Q and A with 2014 Northern Kentucky Commit: Will Haueter (North Canton Hoover HS)

Will Haueter, C, North Canton Hoover HS, Class of 2014

PBR: Why did you choose Northern Kentucky

Haueter: I chose NKU for multiple reasons. Everything about campus felt like home to me. Coach Asalon and his staff are class guys and I definitely feel I can trust them and will enjoy playing for them. Plus, getting to play baseball in the south really appealed to me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Haueter: I was considering Evansville, St. Joseph's, Akron, Ashland and Malone

PBR: Where did NKU first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Haueter: I don't know where they first saw me. But the relationship with the coaches developed rather quickly. As I said before, I feel that Coach Asalon and his staff are great guys and I'm looking forward to playing for them.

PBR: Did NKU’s switch to Division 1 athletics help decide your decision?

Haueter: It was definitely a big deal. A long time goal of mine has been to play Division 1 baseball. It's a blessing to have the opportunity to reach that goal.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Haueter: Coach Asalon expects me to come in and learn right away and compete for playing time as a freshman.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help NKU?

Haueter: I think my bat and ability to learn quickly are my biggest strengths as a player. I think both these things will help me find my way in the line up faster and help me adjust to the college game.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Haueter: I play for Ohio Elite (Nottingham) for Coach Dave Schaub. The whole experience was just a total blessing. Coach Schaub taught me so much and I thoroughly enjoyed playing for him and the OEB program. Also, the team had a special bond from the beginning and I'm glad I got to meet and play with the great players I did.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Haueter: As a team, we hope to repeat as Federal League champs and District champs. A 3rd straight 20 win season is also a big goal. Individually, I hope to break a couple career records at Hoover, and be an All-State performer.

PBR:  What were your stats last season at North Canton Hoover?

Haueter: .422 AVG, 29 RBIs, 11 doubles, 1 HR and 28 runs.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Haueter: This is a hard one. Joe Mockbee from Walsh Jesuit sticks out.
