Q and A with 2014 Ohio Commit: Mason McWilliams (Seneca East HS)

PBR: Why did you choose Ohio University?

McWilliams: I felt extremely comfortable there. I like the coaches and the direction they're taking the program.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

McWilliams: Akron, Bowling Green, Wright State, Cincinnati, and Kent State. 

 PBR:  Coach Smith was just completed his first year as the head coachWhat makes you feel that Coach Smith and his staff can help OU get to its winning ways? 

McWilliams: Their coaching philosophy definitely makes me believe winning is in the future. They expect to have driven players who want to elevate the program. 

PBR: Where did the Bobcat coaches first see you?

McWilliams: The Top Prospect Games.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

McWilliams: They expect me to be a hard worker and to fight for a spot in the starting rotation.

PBR:  What team do you play for in the summer?

McWilliams: Sandusky Legion Post 83.

PBR: What sort of sacrifices did you have to make to play a travel intensive schedule during the summer?  What sort of advice would you pass on to players looking to make the same decision?

McWilliams: I've had to give up doing some things I would've liked to do. My schedule is revolved around baseball. My advice as a ball player is to enjoy it. Have fun with your team and just try to make yourself a better baseball player. 

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

McWilliams: My head coach Frank Lamoreaux. He's a great man and has made a big impact on me as a person, as well as a ball player.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Seneca East?

McWilliams: I batted .433 with 32 RBI's and went 8-2 on the mound with 110 strikeouts.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

McWilliams: Zach Butler (Plymouth)
