Q and A with 2015 Miami Commit: Hayden Senger (Lakota East HS)

Hayden Senger, C, Lakota East HS, Class 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Miami?

Senger: Without a doubt, I chose Miami because of the coaching staff. After their first season together, Coach Hayden, Coach Ison and Coach Davis have already shown improvement building the program by winning the MAC East. Miami University also has the whole package, academics, new improved facilities, a great college town and a nice campus.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Senger: Miami was always my first choice for baseball. It was more of a decision on whether to play football or baseball in college.

PBR: Coach Hayden was name the new Head Coach at Miami this summer.  How does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?

Senger: It's exciting!  Meeting with Coach Hayden on several occasions, I just got the feeling that big things are to come for this program and I want to be a part of it. With Coach Hayden's vision, the new athletic facilities at Miami, and the talent that I know exists with the commits in this class already, this group is going to contend.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Senger: Individual goals - Continue to get physically and mentally stronger. I will continue to work on my baseball game concentrating on making my offensive contributions as valuable as my defensive.

Team goals- Win state.

PBR: You recently performed very well in PBR’s Top Prospects Games.  How did your performance help you in the recruiting process?

Senger: Performing well in PBR games allowed me to measure where I am as a catcher. This helped me make the decision to play baseball instead of football in college.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Senger: So many people have made me the player I am starting with my Dad, who coached me from the time I was 5 until 16, along with Denny Hollstegge. Denny first recognized that I should be a catcher. Later my training became more specialized. Bart Hammack improved my skills as a catcher and Jeff Gatch for hitting. My high school coach Ray Hamilton trusted in me to start varsity as a freshman.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Lakota East?

Senger: 21 wins and 10 losses. Hit .379 with 4 HRs. Threw out 90% runners. All-Academic GMC, First team Catcher GMC, First Team Catcher All State Division 1

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Senger: Grant Schuermann - Lakota West. No doubt.
