Q and A with Youngstown State Commit - 2015 C Blake Zeller (Centerville HS)

Blake Zeller, C, Centerville HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Youngstown State?
Zeller: I chose Youngstown state for a few reasons. YSU's athletic facilities are very nice, they play at a minor league park and the field is beautiful. The indoor facilities are world class and is one of the best in Ohio. I also felt that I really clicked with the coaches and the players and believe that is very important.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Zeller: I was considering Ohio University and Bowling Green State University along with of course Youngstown State.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you and how did your relationship develop?

Zeller:  Centerville Varsity Coach Jason Whited approached Coach Smallcomb of YSU and told them about me, I then sent them my recruiting video's and information. They saw me play in West Virginia at The Beast of the East 19U tourney. I went up for an unofficial visit and met with Coach Neal, we both expressed an equal amount of interest and the rest is history.

PBR: You have participated in a few PBR events, how did your performance help you in the recruiting process?

Zeller:  A lot of college coaches subscribe to PBR and it gives them a good opportunity to see video, comments, and measurables like 60 times and pop times.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

Zeller: It feels great!  Being a part of a D1 baseball program has always been my dream and I can't wait to make the most of it.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Zeller: Last summer I played for the 17u Ohio Bulldogs and we played all 19u tourneys. Easily my favorite memory was going down to the SandLott World Series in Nashville and going 5-0.

PBR: What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Zeller: Different people at various times impacted my baseball career. The Centerville coaching staff and of course my Mom and Dad helped me get to where I am now.
One of the people that stands out is Sean Murphy, sophomore catcher from WSU. He was a junior at CHS when I was a freshman. He put me under his wing and taught me a lot. Now I look forward to playing against him.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?

Zeller: Last spring at Centerville I hit .395 in 26 games, 32 hits, 9 Doubles, 2 Triples , 2 HR and 24 RBI's. I won the offensive player of the year for Centerville.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Zeller: LHP Nick Bennett of Moeller is the one that stands out because he beat us (Centerville) in the District Finals. Very deceptive delivery.
