PBR Spotlight Game: Ontario Blue Jays 16u vs Team Ontario 16u Double-Header
Mississauga– Two teams in the Premier Elite Baseball League of Ontario (PBLO) squared off in a doubleheader at Fleetwood Park in Mississauga.
The Ontario Blue Jays took game one 15-1 behind dominant performances by starting pitcher Jordan Balazovic and one of the fastest players in his age class, left fielder Kurt Dawkins.
The 6-foot-2, 160-pound righty Balazovic gave up 4 hits, no walks, one earned run while striking out 13 batters over 6 innings; he left the game picking up the win.
Left Fielder Dawkins had an extraordinary day at the plate in game one for the Jays; the righty finished the game 4-4 with three singles and a triple while driving in six of his team’s fifteen runs.
The Jays’ 5-foot-9, 160-pound CF, Cooper Davis (2017) had a great game at the plate as well, he reached base four times in game one while having multiple long at bats. He finished the game 1-2 with a double, 2 walks, a HBP and one RBI.
Team Ontario’s lone run of the game came in the top of the 4th inning when Carter Johnson hit a homerun clearing the right field fence. This was Jordan Balazovic’s lone blemish of the day of what was a masterful pitching performance.
In game two of the doubleheader, the Jays’ bats continued to stay hot as they hit a pair of homeruns which powered them to a 25-0 win over Team Ontario. The 6-foot-3 right-handed combination of Noah Skirrow and Jeff Kelly combined to throw a seven inning, two hit shutout with seven strikeouts not issuing a base on balls. Skirrow pitched the first 4 scoreless innings of the game, and Jeff Kelly pitched the final three frames.
The Jays’ 6-foot-3, 160-pound catcher and 2016 grad Dante Jakupovski had a strong game at the plate and behind the dish. Dante finished the game 2-5 with a single and a three run blast. As well as his strong offensive showing, he threw out both base-runners trying to steal in the game.
2017 grad Ryan Kula had a strong game for the Jays after being inserted into the game as a pinch runner in the bottom of the third inning for Johnny Liu. Kula finished the game 3-4, with two singles, but his most memorable at bat of the game came in the top of the sixth inning when he came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam to right centerfield.
