PBR Spotlight Game: Team Ontario 18u vs. Ontario Blue Jays 18u
SCARBOROUGH- Saturday was a chance to see some good ball players with a lot of potential for the upcoming 2015 draft between the Ontario Blue Jays and Team Ontario at Dan Lang Field. The Blue Jays swept the doubleheader 7-3 and 5-0.
Game one saw a pair of lefties on the mound, 8th ranked 2015 Ontario prospect Isaac Anesty for the Blue Jays and Matthew Fiorini for Team Ontario.
Anesty had a 1-2-3 1st inning with a pair of strikeouts. In total, he went 4 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit, striking out 5 and walking 2. His fastball showed good life and commanded both sides of the plate, while mixing in a hard breaking ball for strikes.
2015 2nd ranked prospect, Josh Naylor went 1-for-4 with an RBI and just missed a home run in his final at-bat in the 6th. Not known for his speed, Naylor showed great instincts as he managed to steal 3rd base in the 3rd inning.
Blue Jays’ OF Nick Howie went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. He also lined a ball hard right at the 3rd baseman to end the 5th inning.
Team Ontario’s starter Fiorini went 4 innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 4.
In game two, Blue Jays uncommitted RHP and 11th ranked prospect in Ontario R.J. Freure walked the first batter he faced and then settled into a groove after that going 5 innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits, striking out 7 and walking 1. Team Ontario had a tough time catching up to his fastball and Freure broke off some hard breaking balls for strikes.
Blue Jays’ C Tony Hrynkiw went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBI. Both of his hits were hard to the left-centerfield gap.
Team Ontario RHP Chase Porter went 4 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits, striking out 5 and walking 3.
