Cam Black-Araujo
Assistant Director, Prep Baseball Canada

On Monday, February 19th the Prep Baseball Ontario staff hosted the annual Greater Toronto Preseason ID at the Vaughan Sportsplex in Vaughan, Ontario and the event gives players a chance to showcase their offseason developments prior to their spring trips down South. The event also serves as an identifier and qualifier for our Select Series Events such as Future Games (2026), Jr. Future Games (2028/2029), Senior Future Games (2025), West Coast Games (2025/2026) Best of the West (18U & 15U), NY State Games (2025-2027) and NorthEast Senior Games (2025).

This event featured over 110 prospects from the across the province in the 2024 - 2028 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the players, as well as collect updated metrics via our tech partners TrackMan and Swift Performance.

Earlier this week, we broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis and Pitching Data Dive. Now, we begin to break down some of the standouts from the event within this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on eight players who caught our eye.

Sam Andersen SS / 2B / Royal St. George's College, ON / 2024

2024 Sam Andersen, a 6-foot, 170-pound shortstop out of the Ontario Blue Jays put together a quality overall showing on Monday and was one of the top seniors in attendance. Andersen has long shown well on the infield and has added some strength which has elevated the offensive profile. It’s still a line-drive, gap-to-gap approach from the right-side and posted a peak exit velocity of 91.4mph and distance of 283ft. Also ran a 7.05 and was up to 84mph across the diamond. An unsigned senior who’s game continues to trend upwards and is also eligible as a 2025 recruit.

Max Arnold OF / SS / LoEllen, ON / 2025

2025 OF/SS Max Arnold is another name out of Sudbury who’s had a good offseason. 5-foot-10, 165-pounds and is moving with more aggression in all areas of his game. Generated a peak exit velocity of 88.3mph and distance of 291ft. Was also up to 84mph across the diamond. Good first showing from Arnold and will be a name for college coaches to follow in Sudbury over the next year and a half.

Noah Cantwell 3B / C / Monsignor Doyle , ON / 2025

Cantwell was one of the top position players in attendance at the event and put together one of the better overall days. Strong, proportionate frame at 6-foot-1, 195-pounds and was making consistent hard contact throughout his round with an avg exit velocity of 88.8mph, good for 4th-best at the event. Also ran a 7.25 and was up to 83mph across the diamond. Cantwell will be an uncommitted 2025 for college coaches to keep tabs on throughout the summer tournament circuit.

Ty Wilson SS / RHP / Catholic Central , ON / 2025

‘25 SS/RHP Ty Wilson put together a strong 2023 season and continues to stand out with his athleticism and movements on the diamond. Somewhat undersized at 5-foot-8, 140-pounds but flies on the bases, running the best 60-yard dash at the event with a 6.50. Was also up to 79 across the diamond, 82 on the mound and generated a peak exit velocity of 90.7mph.

Quinn Lightfoot OF / RHP / Mayfield SS, ON / 2025

This was the first 2025 RHP/INF Quinn Lightfoot and he definitely made some noise, flashing upside on both sides of the ball. Towering frame at 6-foot-5, 210-pounds and sat 83-85mph on the mound, along with a slider at 68-70mph. Right-handed hitter also generated a peak exit velocity of  92.1mph and peak distance of 332ft. There’s power potential at the dish and the frame/arm give him plenty of potential on the mound as he continues to develop. A player who’s eligible in both the 2025 and 2026 class.

Nolan Walsh OF / LHP / Bishop Allen Academy , ON / 2025

‘25 OF/LHP Nolan Walsh was another two-way player at the event who showed potential on both sides of the ball. The Etobicoke Rangers product was up to 86mph from the outfield and the arm translated to the mound where the left-hander sat 81-83 T84 on the mound. The 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter put together a peak exit velocity of 93.0mph, distance of 288ft and Sweet Spot % of 66.

Colin Miller C / 1B / Brooklin , ON / 2027

‘27 C/1B Colin Miller continues to stand out as one of the more physical and impactful players in his class. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound catcher out of the Team Ontario Astors put together pop-times in the 2.02-2.15 range with a 77mph arm. The left-handed hitter drives the ball with ease, generating the 2nd-best exit velocity at the event (97.8mph) along with a peak distance of 336ft. As the 2027 class begins to slowly enter the spotlight, Miller will be one to keep an eye on.

Dylan Zaretsky C / 1B / King City, ON / 2025

‘25 C/1B Dylan Zaretsky continues to show signs of development and why he’s the top-ranked catcher in Ontario’s 2025 class. Looks the part behind the dish with a 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame and it’s a good catch-and-throw with pop-times of 1.99-2.15 and a 75mph arm. There’s some thump in the bat from the left-side with the top distance at the event (362ft) and a peak exit velocity of 94.8mph (87.2 avg). Worth a look over the summer from four-year programs in need of a catcher.
