A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Curveball
Hammer+
A hammer breaking ball drops vertically with velocity through the zone, or 12-to-6 movement. Hammer+ of 100 is MLB average.
Curveball
Sweep+
A sweeping breaking ball moves horizontally with velocity through the zone. Sweep+ of 100 is MLB average.

It’s been a good year for Walsh who continues to trend upwards as a left-handed pitcher and was a pitcher schools had penciled in to get a look at. 5-foot-11, 178-pounds and the fastball sat 82-84mph with a heavy dose as he lacked some feel on the secondary stuff. Was throwing strikes with the fastball and featured a breaking ball at 73-75mph and snapped off a couple good ones that prove it can be an out-pitch. Also got some reps in the outfield where he defended at a high-level and was up to 88mph, but it’s the left-handed arm that will get looks for the next level.

‘25 OF/LHP Nolan Walsh was another two-way player at the event who showed potential on both sides of the ball. The Etobicoke Rangers product was up to 86mph from the outfield and the arm translated to the mound where the left-hander sat 81-83 T84 on the mound. The 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter put together a peak exit velocity of 93.0mph, distance of 288ft and Sweet Spot % of 66.

2025 OF/LHP Nolan Walsh put together some of the better batting practice we saw at the Holiday Hitters event in Toronto. 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter with a short stroke that allowed him to work up the middle, generating a peak exit velocity of 91.1mph. Adding strength and physicality will be huge for Walsh’s development as he continues to look ahead to college baseball.
