Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?.

Mhoon: I didn’t really have too many expectations about the recruiting process, I didn’t know how a coach would reach out or even if any coach would reach out. I looked for a college program that made it seem like they really wanted me there, and somewhere that focuses on development, and has a good culture. LMU is an amazing school with an amazing coaching staff that harps on player development and is a perfect fit for me. 

PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

M: The recruiting process for me really started to heat up my sophomore summer. I got the opportunity to play in front of tons of coaches through the whole summer and after August 1st hit I was fortunate enough to get lots of texts, calls, and emails from coaches. 

PB: What are you most looking forward to when it comes to playing college baseball?

M: I’m most looking forward to being able to compete and play baseball at the next level. To fight and work hard, earn a spot, and play the game I’ve always loved. I am also excited to meet new people, create new friendships, and enjoy the experience as a whole. 

PB: In your opinion who is the best player you have faced in the state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

M: Some of the best players I’ve had to face in the state and gotten to play with include RHP Noble Meyer [Jesuit HS/Miami Marlins], RHP Dane Lais [Oregon City HS/San Diego Padres], and RHP River Hamilton [Sam Barlow HS]. These guys all work extremely hard, are incredibly talented, and are already playing at a very high level.

PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

M: It hit me when I got in contact with my first college coach my freshman year, and knew it was serious. Ever since 8th grade, I got a lot more serious about getting better and working harder to achieve my goals. 

PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

M: Always work hard, you can achieve anything you want as long as you put in the time and work. Don’t get too stressed about the little things, baseball is just a game we all love so remember to enjoy it, follow God’s plan and it will all work out.

PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

M: Some of the most memorable moments in my baseball career was making it to the LLWS in 2019— an unreal experience with friends that we’ll remember forever. Also, my first offer was truly unforgettable, proved the hard work was paying off, and showed I would make it to the next level. 

PB: Any game day superstitions or routines? 

M: Nothing crazy that I do, but I don’t really go on my phone before games, a way for me to get locked in. I also like to pray and thank God for the opportunities he's given me and for helping me in the process. 

PB: Give us a quick preview of what to expect from your HS team next season. How do you feel your team will be in 2025?

M: Looking forward to my high school team next year. Returning 6 of 9 starters including our first 4 hitters, and all of our pitching rotation. Should be a very solid team with a competing chance to win the league.
