The PBR MN JUCO Showcse event took place on Sunday, November 3, 2019. The event was held at the Braemar Dome in Edina, MN. The event featured uncommitted prospects from various junior college programs in the state of Minnesota; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance. 

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the PBR MN JUCO Showcase event.

Luis Arroyo, RHP, Hibbing, 2017
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Average build.  Threw from stretch.  Closed set position.  Leg lift and stays closed.  Swings open down mound.  Slight stab behind.  Throws form a higher ¾ arm slot with average arm action.  Fastball has slight cut for strikes at 78-79 mph.  Curveball is 62-66 mph with 11/5 break and inconsistent feel.  Change-up has down action at bottom of zone at 72-74 mph. 

Evyn Booth, OF, Hibbing, 2015
5-foot-11, 230-pound left-handed hitting outfielder.  7.33 runner.  Open stance with high handset.  Toe taps to square with hand load.  Slight arm bar at times.  Swing plane works down and up through contact.  Pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Average contact and flashes pull pop.  87 mph exit velocity.  OF- Slower feet and tends to sit back on ball.  Average glove and fields through ball clean.  78 mph arm strength with average carry and good accuracy. 

Derrick Calvillo, C/1B, Hibbing, 2017
6-foot, 205-pound right-handed hitting catcher.  7.58 runner.  Squared balance stance with high handset.  Simple load and stride.  Looks to elevate.  Mid/pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Consistent contact with pop in barrel.  84 mph exit velocity.  C- Angled stance.  Quiet smooth glove.  Works low to high.  Average to block.  Clean exchange with longer footwork.  2.00-2.14 pop times.  77 mph arm strength.  IF- Average feet around bag.  Glove stays low and makes routine play.  79 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy. 

JD Cunningham, RHP, Hibbing, 2018
6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Average frame.  Rocker step into leg lift.  Stays closed down mound and lands slightly across body.  Good balance and direction.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a long arm action and good extension out front at times.  Fastball has cut action thrown at 77-79 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with average depth at 62-63 mph.  Change-up has varying action at 64-67 mph. 

Alexandre Diaz, 3B/RHP, Hibbing, 2019
6-foot, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.29 runner.  Present strength.  Balanced squared stance.  Small stride and hand load.  Flashes bat speed.  Gap to gap approach with line drive contact.  Hard barrel contact with pull pop.  99 mph exit velocity.  IF- Good feet and actions.  Average glove with quick transfer.  Ability to throw from different arm slots.  83 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Rocker step to start.  Midway leg lift and lands down mound with shorter stride.  Throws from ¾ and low ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has arm side run thrown at 84-85 mph.  Slider has small 10/4 break with tight spin thrown at 74-77 mph.  Change-up has inconsistent feel and firm with average action at 80-83 mph. 

Julian Diaz, 2B/OF, Hibbing, 2016
5-foot-9, 190-pound left-handed hitting second baseman.  7.59 runner.  Slightly open balanced stance with high handset.  Quick and simple load.  Short to contact.  Mid/pull approach with line drive contact.  Average contact with some strength in swing.  87 mph exit velocity.  OF- Aggressive with good routes to field.  Glove is clean and fields through ball.  81 mph arm strength with average carry and good accuracy.  IF- Average feet and sits back to field.  Glove makes routine play.  77 mph arm strength with average carry and good accuracy.   

Elvis Farina Jr., SS, St. Cloud Tech, 2019
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting short-stop.  6.76 runner.  Slightly closed stance with high handset.  Choppy rhythm.  Swing plane works down to contact.  Uses the whole field with line drive contact.  Good contact with 81 mph exit velocity.  IF- Active feet and works around ball to field.  Good glove and sure hands.  76 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry. 

Wyatt Halvorson, RHP/3B, MN St West, 2019
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.28 runner.  Narrow and open stance.  Compress load and stride.  Sits over backside through swing.  Slight uphill swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Good contact with strength in barrel.  85 mph exit velocity.  IF- Sits back to field.  Stays low and fields ball out in front.  Average glove.  Long arm action.  80 mph exit velocity with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Average frame.  Raw mechanically.  Rocker step and turn.  Gets to balance position and lands down mound across body.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with some stiffness in arm action.  Fastball has varying action thrown at 76-78 mph.  Curveball is 70-73 mph with 10/4 break and tight spin thrown with inconsistent feel.  Change-up has average fade action at 71-72 mph. 

Luke LeMay, 3B, Century, 2018
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman.  6.84 runner.  Upright and narrow stance.  Strides and hands load down and back.  Barrel works up through contact.  Gap to gap approach with line drive contact.  Consistent hard contact and flashes pop in barrel.  88 mph exit velocity.  IF- Active feet and stay wider to field.  Average glove and funnels in.  82 mph arm strength with average carry and good accuracy.

Daniel Llanas, RHP/2B, St. Cloud Tech, 2019
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.19 runner.  Balanced stance.  Leg lift and rhythm in load.  Aggressive swing.  Gap to gap approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Solid consistent contact with pop in barrel.  89 mph exit velocity.  OF- Feet sit back to field and work well into release.  Average glove.  Shorter arm action.  90 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Average frame.  Small rocker step into simple delivery.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with short arm action.  Fastball has run and sink for strikes at 83-86 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with tight spin and lands thrown at 67-69 mph.  Change-up has average action at 73-76 mph.

5-foot-9, 180-pound right-handed hitting second baseman.  7.02 runner.  Balanced stance.  Leg lift and hand load.  Aggressive swing.  Swing plane works down to contact.  Uses the whole field with line drive contact.  Average barrel contact with 81 mph exit velocity.  IF- Good feet and moves athletically.  Solid glove and sure hands.  80 mph arm strength with good carry and average accuracy. 

Diego Martinez, LHP, Hibbing, 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound left-handed throwing pitcher.  Smaller thin frame.  Threw from stretch.  Closed set position.  Leg lift up into tuck and turn down mound.  Good balance with shorter stride.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with some push release.  Fastball has slight arm side run thrown at 72-74 mph.  Slider has 2/8 break with small shape at 66-68 mph.  Change-up is firm with slight fade action at 69-70 mph. 

Brody Mundell, RHP, Hibbing, 2018
5-foot-10, 145-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Threw from stretch.  Balanced set position.  Higher balance point and lands slightly across body.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a long arm action.  Fastball has some run thrown at 78-79 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with average depth and spin at 66-70 mph.  Slider has 10/4 small break at 69-73 mph.  Change-up is firm with down action at 74-75 mph. 

Michael O’Malley, OF/IF, Itasca, 2017
5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder.  7.20 runner.  Open and upright stance.  Body load and leg lift.  Some bat speed.  Flat swing plane with short finish.  Uses the whole field with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average barrel contact and flashes pull pop.  85 mph exit velocity.  OF- Moves well to ball.  Stays behind through release.  Average glove and fields through clean.  79 mph arm strength with average carry and good accuracy.  IF- Sits back on routine ball and more athletic laterally.  Quick release.  Average glove.  70 mph arm strength with fade carry and average accuracy. 

Sawyer Rolland, RHP, MN St-Fergus Falls, 2019
6-foot-6, 265-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Big frame and mound presence.  Simple and repeatable delivery.  Gets to a closed balance point and good direction down mound.  Shorter stride and stays tall through release.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with average arm action.  Fastball is slightly downhill with cut action thrown at 83-85 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with good depth and spin at 71-72 mph.  Change-up is thrown with good feel at 76-78 mph with fade action. 

Joshua Sprague, RHP, Hibbing, 2014
6-foot, 195-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Average frame.  Small rocker step into balance position.  Gathers closed and lands down mound closed.  Good tempo through delivery.  Stays tall at release.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a loose arm action.  Fastball is 79-82 mph with arm side sink.  Slider has 10/4 break with small shape and tight spin thrown at 67-69 mph.  Change-up is thrown with good arm speed and late fade action at 73-75 mph. 

Landon Tinsman, C, Itasca, 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher.  7.50 runner.  Slightly open balanced stance.  Small hand load with stride.  Pushes barrel through zone with flat swing plane.  Middle approach with line drive contact.  Average barrel contact with 81 mph exit velocity.  C- One knee stance.  Glove works low to high and stiff at times.  Keeps ball in front to block.  Clean quick exchange with average footwork.  2.01-2.13 pop times.  74 mph arm strength.
