Hawaii State Games | Quick Hits

The inaugural PBR Hawaii State Games is in the books with an exciting group of players in attendance that proved that Hawaii has the present and incoming talent that can play at the next level and beyond. At the PBR Hawaii State Games we ran through an in-depth Position Player Workout that included a TrackMan and Blast Motion tracked Batting Practice Session followed by Defensive Evaluations. Once the Position Player Workout wrapped up, the players partook in a Live Game, where pitchers were evaluated throughout their outing by our TrackMan system with all metrics retrieved throughout the day dropped into the player profiles.
Today, we continue our post event coverage with the Quick Hits, highlighting our immediate impressions from the standout performances at the PBR Hawaii State Games.

Bruin Agbayani SS / 2B / Iolani, HI / 2025The highly touted incoming Junior proved exactly why throughout his PBR Hawaii State Games with a standout performance during the position player workout, followed by loud barrels in each of his three at-bats during the Live Gameplay portion. Agbayani got his day started with the defensive workout where he showed off his advanced, fluid defensive actions paired with an 86 mph Infield Velocity, then followed it up with one of the most impressive BP Sessions of the event, producing a 98.2 mph TrackMan Exit Velocity. The present build and strength, paired with his action and in-game prove that this a player to keep on your radar and we would not be surprised if he is off the board sooner rather than later.

Joshua Surigao LHP / 1B / North Myrtle Beach, SC / 2024The 6-foot-2 southpaw out of South Carolina and University of Hawaii commit made the trek out to Honolulu for the PBR Hawaii State Games and proved exactly why the UH Staff is excited to get him on campus in 2024. With a mostly fastball/slider mix, he was struck out four of four batters faced during his first inning of work where he primarily used his fastball that featured 18.6 inches of Average Horizontal Run via TrackMan. His slider is still a pitch in development with a ton of potential from the 3/4 slot and present looseness in his arm. Only starting to really pitch once Covid started, Surigao seems to only be scratching the surface of what is to come.

Kalehuakuponoikahuliau Akaka SS / OF / Kalani, HI / 2024Akaka had himself a day at the inaugural PBR Hawaii State Games. He may not have been at the top of the leaderboards during the Position Player Workout, but when the lights came on during the Live Gameplay portion of the event. In his first at-bat, he got things started with a loud triple that helped to continue to verify that his line drive filled Batting Practice Session, that featured an 86.2 mph Average Exit Velocity, will translate to in-game. In his second at-bat, he added to his already standout day with a standup double down the left field line, finishing his day 2 for 2 with a pair of extra base hits.

Nariyuki Dumlao SS / OF / Maui, HI / 2024Dumlao is another Uncommitted senior to keep on your radar this Spring. The 5-foot-10, 160 pound prospect with an athletic build and plenty of room to add size and strength landed at the top or at least in the top three of each statistical category measured at the inaugural PBR Hawaii State Games. He lead the event in both Infield Velocity - 87 mph and TrackMan Exit Velocity - 99.6 mph, then added a standup triple to left-centerfield in the Live Game to cap off his impressive day on both sides of the plate.

Alika Ahu SS / 2B / University Laboratory, HI / 2026The 2026 proved himself as one of the top prospects at the event, regardless of class, with advanced actions throughout his game that were on display during the position player workout as well as in the live gameplay portion of the event. Already at 6-foot-3, 180 pound, he already has the frame and proportionate build to make him an intriguing prospect, and pairing that with his present athleticism, he will be a player to keep on your radar. His 84 mph Infield Velocity and line drive filled Batting Practice Session translated to the Live Gameplay when he turned around a fastball for a line drive single to centerfield.

Elias Pereira 3B / RHP / Kauai, HI / 2024Pereira is another Unsigned Senior that showed well on both sides of the ball with present physical strength in his 5-foot-11 frame that was on display 97.0 mph TrackMan Exit Velocity that earned a share of the event best Infield Velocity at 87 mph. He then hopped on the mound and ran it up to 86.2 mph with developing curveball/changeup secondary mix. We believe the ceiling may be higher as a position player and the present tools he possesses should translate well to the next level with his arm allowing him to stay on the left side of the infield.

Jaron Lancaster SS / RHP / Mid Pacific institute , HI / 2028Lancaster was the lone 2028 to attend the the PBR Hawaii State Games and with the maturity and advanced actions he put on display, he is going to be a player to have on your radar in the coming years. His rise to fame came from his Little League World Series Championship a year ago and his game has continued to improve his game over the last year. The fluid defensive action that flashed projectable lateral range with added strength and size paired with his present confidence and feel at the plate proves that this will be a high projection type player with much more to come over the next few years.
