Quick Hitters: South Charlotte Panther PBR Scout Day

Brandon Hall
Executive Director, PBR NC

Saturday November 2nd featured a PBR Scout Day at Mooresville HS with the South Charlotte Panthers.  The Panthers invited current and potential Panther players from the 2022 and 2023 classes to the Scout Day.   PBR was able to take each player through a full pro-style workout, updating and verifying stats on each player.

Position players ran a laser timed 60 followed by offensive and defensive workouts.  Following the position player workout, pitchers threw a controlled bullpen for Panthers staff and PBR scouts.  With over 35 players in attendance, PBR scouts have begun to work through all of the information.  Below is the first look at the PBR Scout Day with the South Charlotte Panthers.  The Quick Hitters is just a first look at several players from the workout that made a quick impression on PBR Scouts.

PBR Scout Day: South Charlotte Panthers - Quick Hitters

Kyle Dobos, SS, Marvin Ridge HS, 2023
Right handed hitter with good hands.  Solid bat path with quickness and hand strength.  Led to several solid rounds of BP with good barrel awareness.

Walker Jenkins, SS, South Brunswick HS, 2023
Physical presence hitting on the left side.  Balanced with a level path, generating line drives, working gap-to-gap.  Fluid with the bat, there is strength in the hands.

Chance Mako, RHP/SS, East Rowan HS, 2023
Lanky with athleticism and a high ceiling.  Chance to hit for power as he continues to mature.  On the bump, the arm works with ease.  Fastball jumps out of the hand with arm side run.   Pairs it with a solid slider.

Luke Schmolke, RHP, Lake Norman HS, 2022
Strike thrower with a strong arm.  Repeats the delivery.  Fastball bumped 89.  Lots of aggression and intent on each pitch.

Brady Turner, LHP, Oak Grove HS, 2022
Smaller frame but with loose hips and a quick arm.  Ball jumped out of the hand.  Breaking ball worked with late, sharp action.

Braylen Hayes, OF/RHP, Uwharrie Charter Academy, 2023
Good athlete with length in the frame.  Power potential from the right side.  Quick twitch.  Arm played from the outfield with advanced carry as well.  Fastball up to 86 with some ease on the bump.

Trey Way, C/INF, Uwharrie Charter Academy, 2022
Good athlete that was sound in the box, behind the plate, and on the infield.  High barrel awareness with a line drive approach.  Quick feet and hands showing carry and accuracy from behind the dish and on the infield.

David Sessoms, OF, East Rutherford HS, 2022
Strong hands on the right side of the box.  Short, quick path working the entire field with a line drive approach.

Brody Fowler, 1B, Eastside HS (SC), 2022
Physical with strength and quickness from the right side.  Ball jumped off the barrel.  Works to air out every swing he takes.  Average barrel feel but damage is done when on the barrel.

Justin Best, OF, Langtree Charter, 2023
Lanky and athletic.  Has quick twitch present.  Average barrel feel and raw with his setup and swing, but the bat is very quick through the zone.

Nic Melton, LHP, North Stanly HS, 2022
Advanced feel for is off-speed stuff.  Showed an ability to move his fastball around as well.  Hips are loose in a big frame leading to a heavy fastball that peaked at 84.

Aiden Evans, OF/RHP, Hough HS, 2022
Good athlete.  Quick twitch with hand strength in the box.  High level of feel for his barrel.  Ability to spray the baseball all over the yard with authority.  Good feel for an advanced change-up on the bump.

Michael Forret, RHP, Metrolina Christian Academy, 2022
Lanky with a very quick arm and heavy fastball.  Fastball peaked at 88.  Heavy, hard run to the arm side on most pitches, especially on fastballs to the arm side.  Solid set of secondary pitches.

Casey Gouge, LHP, West Rowan HS, 2022
Strike thrower that repeats his delivery.  Features three solid pitches with some room left to his ceiling.  Above average hand speed and a frame that should add strength.

Colby Vanhook, RHP, Jay M Robinson HS, 2023
Strong frame.  ¾ slot leads to a heavy fastball that peaked at 82.  Late bite and some feel for his secondary offerings.
