Quick hitters - Charleston Preseason Open ID: Pitchers

Sammy Esposito
PBR SC Director of Scouting

The Charleston Preseason ID took place on Saturday Jan. 22th at the Shipyard Park outside of Charleston in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Prospects from the event came from around the Palmetto state on a cool winter afternoon.

The event began with pitcher bullpens with each pitch tracked by Trackman, along with Pitch AI.  A pro-style workout for all the position players followed that included the 60 yard dash, BP with TrackMan ball flight analysis, and a defensive evaluation.

Below we will look at some quick hitters from the pitchers for the event.

Lean wiry frame with tons of projection in body.  Smooth tempo delivery with a low ¾ arm slot.  Showed a quick loose arm.  Threw four pitches for strikes on the day with a fastball, slider, cutter, and change up.  Fastball has tons of sink and run to it while running it up to 84.  Slider has good shape late break to it.  CH a lot of run on pitch from his arm slot and cutter is a short break to it on same plane as FB.

Andrew McLaughlin - 2024 - RHP/INF (Ashley Ridge (HS) • SC)

6’1 168 pound frame with present strength and plenty of room to grow.  Rolls through delivery and has a short arm action with a H ¾ arm slot.  Wide base on the rubber with athletic movements.  Fastball has good life and run to it.  Breaking ball is a slurvey pitch with good break to it at 2/8 movement.  Change up has good action with some sink and fade to it.

Jake Klein - 2024 - LHP/OF (Oceanside Collegiate (HS) • SC)

An up tempo delivery from this left hander with a low ¾ arm slot.  Arm is loose and whippy.  High leg lift with good direction down the mound.  Fastball has good arm side sun and sink.  Shows ability to pitch down in the zone.  Curveball has good downward action to it with a 11/5 break.  Good arm speed on change up with good run and sink to it.
