Prep Baseball North Carolina continued its fall JUCO coverage on Friday, October 9, with the Prep Baseball JUCO Scout Day: Guilford Tech CC at Truist Point Stadium in High Point, NC. The event provided Guilford Tech players with a complete pro-style evaluation, gathering verified statistics, advanced metrics, video, and scouting information as they continue their development and begin marketing themselves to potential four-year programs.

The day opened with a laser-timed 60-yard dash, recording each player's full 60 time along with 10-yard and 30-yard splits. Players then transitioned into offensive evaluations, working through rounds of batting practice with TrackMan tracking ball flight off the bat and collecting advanced offensive metrics.

Defensive evaluations followed from each player's primary position. The workout gave coaches and scouts an opportunity to evaluate athleticism, movement, hands, catch, exchange, and release while also recording arm strength. Carry and accuracy were evaluated alongside the measurable arm velocities to provide a more complete look at each player's defensive profile.

Pitchers began their evaluation by throwing a simulated inning in the bullpen with TrackMan collecting velocity, spin, movement, and additional pitch metrics throughout their arsenals. They then transitioned into a live scrimmage, facing hitters in a competitive setting and allowing the Prep Baseball scouting staff to continue evaluating both pitchers and position players in game action.

Each participating player will also receive a full video from the workout, hosted on his Prep Baseball profile. Combined with the verified statistics, TrackMan analytics, and scouting evaluations collected throughout the day, the updated profiles provide four-year coaches and scouts with another resource to identify, track, and evaluate players at the junior college level.

Prep Baseball NC will continue to break down the Guilford Tech CC Scout Day through statistical leaderboards, data analysis, and scouting coverage, highlighting the players and performances that stood out throughout the event.

VALD PERFORMANCE

Top 60-Yard Dash

Traditionally, the 60-yard dash has been the in-event standard for measuring a player's speed tool. We implemented three timing gates at the 10- and 30-yard splits to capture athletes' quickness, explosiveness, and reaction time. From there, we calculate an athlete's top-end speed in miles per hour.

While the 60-yard dash still has its utility, the 10-yard split has become increasingly applicable in determining a player's burst and reaction time in-game, whether in the outfield or on the basepaths.
