2026 South Atlantic Border Battle: Scout Blog

Prep Baseball's scouting staff was on hand throughout the 2026 South Atlantic Border Battle, getting an extended look at players from across the region during two days of workouts and game action.

The event provided another opportunity to evaluate players in a competitive setting, with position players going through offensive and defensive work as well as participating in two controlled scrimmages. Pitchers worked to live hitters in the scrimmage situations.

Below is a quick look at players from the Prep Baseball scouting staff during the event. These notes are designed to provide a snapshot of what was seen over the two-day look and are not intended to serve as comprehensive scouting reports.

Yankees — South Carolina 2027

Position Players

Colt Babic, SS, Hammond, 2027
College of Charleston. Strong-handed right-handed hitter with an aggressive turn in the box. Babic worked to create extension and showed strength through the hitting zone.

Phifer Glenn, SS, T.L. Hanna, 2027
Coastal Carolina. Athletic infielder with good twitch and above-average bat speed. Glenn showed barrel feel in game action with a gap-to-gap approach while also displaying an understanding of the strike zone.

Dylan Hernandez, C, AC Flora, 2027
College of Charleston. Physical catcher with broad shoulders and strength throughout the frame. Hernandez's arm showed carry with solid accuracy during the workout. At the plate, he displayed strength at impact and solid barrel feel, including staying through a fastball for a line drive to center field in game action.

Carter Kelly, SS, Fountain Inn, 2027
College of Charleston. Athletic left-handed hitting infielder who showed solid barrel feel throughout the two-day look. Kelly worked with a direct path in games, put together consistent at-bats and recorded a 4.37 time down the line.

Noah Layton, CF, Nation Ford, 2027
Uncommitted. Lean, twitchy athlete with above-average running ability. Layton's speed and athleticism provide an intriguing foundation in the outfield.

Jackson Meyers, C, Atlantic Collegiate, 2027
The Citadel. Strong catcher with a well-rounded skill set. Meyers made a nice adjustment during the event, following his opening day with four quality at-bats on the second day.

Trip Ostergard, SS, James Island Charter, 2027
North Carolina. One of the top overall performers at the event. Ostergard put together an impressive round of batting practice, driving balls off the wall to both gaps with consistent backspin. His offensive ability translated immediately to game action, where he homered to right field on a 90 mph fastball at the top of the zone. The swing is short, direct and impactful with advanced barrel manipulation, and he remained on time throughout the two-day look. Defensively, his athleticism and reliability give him a chance to remain at shortstop moving forward.

Maddox Rogozinski, SS, P27, 2027
Auburn. Muscular athlete with straight-line speed and above-average quickness. Rogozinski showed physical strength in the right-handed swing with the ability to create leverage and extension to the pull side.

Luke Young, C, P27 Academy, 2026
North Greenville. Physical catcher with strength in the build. Young showed an aggressive right-handed swing and made adjustments during his game at-bats, getting increasingly on time to fastballs as the looks progressed.

Pitchers

Reidar Carlson, RHP, Lexington, 2027
College of Charleston. Carlson worked 87-90 mph and showed solid ride through the zone. He displayed feel for locating the fastball to both sides and showed the ability to elevate when needed. Carlson also landed his secondary pitches for strikes, including a slider at 81 mph and changeup at 81.

Eli Chowning, LHP, ECA, 2027 (NC)
College of Charleston. Left-hander who worked 87-89 mph with the fastball, producing spin rates around 2,300 rpm. Chowning mixed both a curveball and slider, with the slider showing sharper, more abrupt movement in the upper-70s.

Cooper Derrick, RHP, Chapin, 2027
Uncommitted. Lean right-hander who worked 86-88 mph from an over-the-top slot. Derrick stayed on line through foot strike and mixed a curveball around 75 mph that reached approximately 2,200 rpm.

Cooper DeVries, RHP, Dorman, 2027
Uncommitted. Physical right-hander with a quick arm and notable arm strength. DeVries worked with two fastball looks, ranging from 88-90 mph and jumping to 92-94 when reaching back for more. The fastball showed combinations of ride and arm-side run and produced both soft contact and swing-and-miss.

Ben Lee, RHP, South Pointe, 2027
The Citadel. Lee worked 87-89 mph and reached 90, pairing the fastball with a split-change at 78-79 mph. The split gives him a distinctly different secondary look and will be an important piece of his arsenal moving forward.

Will Nalley, RHP, Southside Christian School, 2027
Spartanburg Methodist College. Lean, projectable 6-foot-4 right-hander with arm strength. Nalley worked 87-91 mph and reached 92 with a firm fastball. He also mixed an 80-82 mph slider and an 83 mph changeup, giving him a three-pitch mix to continue developing.

Devon Pascarella, RHP, Fort Mill, 2027
Winthrop. Pascarella worked 88-89 mph from a simple stretch-only delivery. The right-hander featured a long arm swing into a high three-quarter release with a straightforward operation on the mound.

Connor Pellerin, RHP, Carolina Forest, 2027
College of Charleston. Loose right-hander with good arm speed and projection remaining. Pellerin worked 86-88 mph from a high three-quarter slot and showed a slider with length. His changeup flashed the potential to become a quality secondary offering.

Braden Richardson, RHP, Fort Mill, 2027
South Carolina. Strong-bodied right-hander with loose hips and a quick, athletic arm. Richardson worked 88-91 mph and showed the ability to move his fastball to both sides of the plate, with the pitch playing with quality ride. He landed his slider and showed feel for pitching, with the breaking ball working from a similar initial look as the fastball.
