Alpharetta, GA - The USA Scout Showcase was held on August 29th at Denmark High School, bringing together over 40 prospects from the organization within the 2027 and 2028 class. Players completed an on-field workout then followed it up with an eleven-inning simulated scrimmage in front of nearly 20 college coaches across multiple levels. 

Today, we take a closer look at the some of the top performers from the event this past weekend. ⤵️  

USA Scout Showcase: Quick Hits

Jake Adamson, OF/SS, 2028, East Forsyth
Adamson was simply a man possessed as he was arguably the biggest winner of the entire event, with a standout showing both during the workout and in-game as well. Present athleticism and twitch throughout the compact 5-foot-8, 155-pound frame with carrying hit and run tools. Posted a max exit velocity of 92.9 in BP and an event best 6.46 60-yd. Would go on to put together a stellar line in-game with a 2-for-2 showing including a pair of doubles, 2 walks, and 5 stolen bases. Shows a rhythmic load in the box that consistently keeps his on-time with good balance throughout. Quick, direct hands in a direct path to contact and stays through the ball really well with innate bat-to-ball skills to match. Intangibles and motor stand out as he is always willing to take the extra bag. High-level defensive makeup at premium positions backed by plus foot speed and athleticism for quickness in all directions paired with advanced instincts. Adamson looks poised to lead the way for the Broncos in what could be a huge junior campaign this upcoming spring.

Parker Troughton, SS/OF, 2027, Pope
The stock for Troughton has simply been on the rise and then some over the past calendar year with a deep playoff run in the spring. Athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pounds with a well-connected RH cut and tooled up profile. Posted a max 96.5 exit velocity during batting practice as he hammered balls to the pull-side consistently. Would then show well in-game as he strung together a pull-side single and a backside triple as well. Barrel feel with accuracy in the path stands out in each look and feel to use the entire field extremely well. Tremendous zone recognition as he stays compact and balanced through impact with ability to create good separation. Swiss-army knife defensively with chance for a long-term home in centerfield and real gamer qualities. Advanced first step and instincts alike paired with strong routes to the ball, and present foot speed that allow for fantastic coverage in all directions. Above-average arm strength is present with ability to make difficult plays from multiple slots and flexibility in the dirt. Troughton is armed with a versatile skillset and a track record of performing which bodes well for another stellar circuit in store for ‘27.

Maddox Nuckols, RHP/SS, 2028, Augusta Christian
A Future Gamer with South Carolina to cap the summer, Nuckols further added to a breakout campaign with a standout two-way performance this past weekend. Athletic 5-foot-9, 154-pounds with present two-way tools. Bullying performance on the mound while generating whiffs at will and kept batters off-balance with the three-pitch mix . Controls the pace on the mound and attacks in-the-zone with intent. Arm speed is present from a compact action and is tough to beat in-zone. Fastball lives 85-87(T89 MPH) with heavy arm-side life through the zone with command to either half of the plate. Curveball froze batters with late-depth and 12/6 break at 72-73. Sparingly showed a changeup to LHH at 81 as well. Nuckols would not only produce on the mound, but racked up multiple hits in-game including a pull-side double and single. As well as posting a max 91.6 with multiple home runs in batting practice. Utilizes a balanced load while staying compact with fast hands and feel to match plane across multiple parts of the zone. Zone awareness and body control stand out with ability to hit both velocity or spin. Defensive actions for Nuckols bolster the profile further with athleticism in the dirt and above-average arm strength that could carry long-term. Nuckols is one of those gamer types that boast a loud overall profile and seemingly will only continue to raise the floor in due time. 

Ethan Wheeler, SS, 2027, Habersham Central
Another setting where Wheeler looks the part as he performed throughout. Present athleticism in the lean 6-foot-0, 182-pound frame with high-floor tools throughout and gamer intangibles. Kicked off the day with a 6.99 60-yd and finished BP with a max exit velocity of 99.6. Active hands pre-pitch & utilizes a toe-tap load as he crests quality separation while staying balanced through the zone. Twitchy actions stand out in the box with fast hands and delivers a heavy, accurate barrel in a linear path. Followed up batting practice with a pair of sharp base knocks in-game as the track record of hitting continues to only grow. Athleticism and excellent instincts will carry defensively with ability to profile both in the dirt or in a corner outfield spot long-term. This is one of those profiles you simply bet on and Wheeler will be a great asset to a recruiting class amongst various levels. 

Koa Peters, 1B/RHP, 2027, Lambert
Physicality and versatility continue to stand out in every single setting for Peters with another strong look this past weekend. 6-foot-3, 207-pound frame with present above-average tools throughout and track record of production. One of the loudest rounds of BP as he produced a max 99.8 and an average 91.1 exit velocities with a max distance of 381ft. Also ran a 6.97 60-yd time paired with a strong first step 1.60 10-yd. Would translate a loud round over into gameplay where he produced quality at-bats including a 2-strike base-hit. Maintains balance in a leg-lift load with strong hands and adjustability in-zone to do damage amongst various mixes. Efficient outing on the mound and filled up the zone with feel for all three pitches. Stout lower half and creates good drive downhill with present arm strength from a ¾ slot. Fastball lived in-the-zone at misses barrels at 83-86. Gradual slider mixed in at 75 and tunneled well off the fastball. Changeup created fading action at 78 to LHH to round out the arsenal. Peters will be in front of a handful of coaches this week at Senior Games where he will have the opportunity to showcase a potent blend of tools. 

 

Cason Gantt, 1B, 2027, Sequoyah
This uncommitted 2027 class in Georgia is full of sleeper gamer types that consistently produce in-game and Gantt fits that profile to a tee. Physical 6-foot-0, 205-pound frame that holds sneaky athleticism that plays very well at first base matched with real strength from the ground up. Mature approach in BP with ability to pepper that pull-side wall with an average EV at 90.3 (Max 95.6). Simple path to contact with balance throughout the load and strength in the hands/wrists that helps lead to impressive accuracy in the barrel. In-game at-bats on the day were equally strong as the multi-sport athlete would just miss a pull-side HR alongside another barrel for a hard-hit base knock. A .300 hitter both in the spring and summer this past year with budding raw power and makings of an above-average defender that can provide instant high-floor value at the next level.

Makayle Moon, OF, 2027, P27 Academy
The former Future Gamer has added significant muscle while making real athletic strides as well, standing a barrel-chested 6-foot-0, 195-pounds this past weekend. Set the tone for his day with a 6.77 in the 60, showing a quick burst and ability to maintain top speed longterm. Compact, accurate left-handed cut was on full display throughout the day, opening with a loud round of BP that produced multiple pull-side HR alongside a max EV at 98.4. Took some quality at-bats in-game that flashed improved zone recognition and ability to work the other way with ease. Maybe the most impressive showing on the day for the outfielder was the glove. BP shagging is a near forgotten part of the day as intent levels can vary but Moon was must-see TV from the jump, robbing multiple HR and showing advanced routes that were standing out even in a setting like BP. The glove unsurprisingly carried over to gameplay as well where Moon would make maybe the highlight of the day with a Willie Mays-esque over-the-shoulder catch on the track in CF after a long run. Multiple other strong putouts on the day while also showing one of the best arms in workouts at 89 in the outfield. This is a D1 glove without question and there’s a hit/speed combo that can really strengthen this profile this upcoming spring.

Parker Hope, C, 2027, Allatoona
The profile and floor for Hope is still growing as displayed by one of the best all-around performances on Saturday. Athleticism litters the 6-foot-0, 175-pound frame as a sub-6.8 runner with explosiveness in the crouch that shines with a 1.93 pop and present above-average arm strength. All-fields feel at the plate is present with the ability to match planes extremely well in-zone and showing present raw strength to carry both gaps equally as well. Led the event with a max EV at 101.0 (Avg. 91.8) with a max distance of 378ft as he made the park look small. Made some of the loudest contact in-game with multiple 90+ batted balls including sending an F8 to the deepest part of CF alongside an absolute rocket up the middle for a base hit. Will be a bonafide leader for Allatoona as a senior this spring and has the work ethic and high floor to help carry the Bucs to the playoffs for the 14th straight year. 

Kale Tompkins, RHP, 2027, Creekview
Creekview has made it a habit of producing whippy RHP in recent years and Tompkins is yet another cut from that cloth. Some present athleticism with projection alike in the 6-foot-0, 170-pound frame. Methodical downhill delivery with impressive extension and arm speed in the repeatable, compact action. Higher three-quarters slot paired with the arm speed and feel to spin allows for the full three-pitch mix to get on top of hitters often. Fastball lives in the upper-80s with consistent arm-side run and ability to generate in-zone misses at a high rate. Slider makes strides each time we see him with sharp late bite that has the aptitude to miss barrels both in and out of the zone in the mid-to-high 70s with above-average feel to spin. Changeup works as a strong third offering with ability to kill spin and velo alike at 77-80 on average and working at sub-1500 RPMs. Command has been hit or miss in the past for Tompkins that’s shown some reliever risk but everything continues to make strides and now heads into his senior season with a ton of momentum. 

Kyle Sims, SS, 2028, Sequoyah
Sims came out this weekend with the frame and tools showing to have a path to an everyday role for Sequoyah this upcoming spring. Lean, high-waisted 6-foot-2 frame holds significant projection and could add strength in a hurry. Balance at the plate stands out already with some barrel length and ability to work through the middle of the field very well. Put together one of the better all-around rounds of the day in BP with an average EV of 89.7 (Max 94.5) paired with multiple line-drives off the wall. Rangy actions in the middle infield with some flexibility at the waist and arm strength that plays from multiple angles that should point to a long-term in the middle infield. The opportunity for Sims this upcoming spring has a chance to be substantial for the Chiefs. Stock up.
