2021s Trending Upward

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

Another summer has passed and a new draft class has stepped onto the national stage. The Class of 2021 is strong with impact at the top and depth on both sides of the ball. An update to the 2021 Overall Rankings is coming next week, so The Hotlist is taking a look at a few prospects who used this summer to raise their stock. Some were already highly regarded, but made statements solidifying their status, while others announced their presence with authority.

Josh Baez, OF/RHP, Dexter School, MA
To put it simply, Baez is tooled up. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Vanderbilt recruit was up to 97 mph early in the summer, but that might be a fallback option for him. His quick-twitch actions allow him to whip the bat through the zone with plus bat speed, producing loud contact. In his first at-bat at the Area Code Games, he squared up a 91 fastball at 94 off the bat for a single and followed it up with a home run to right-center field that was 107 off the bat. He has turned in above average run times down the line, but profiles best in right field where his power, athleticism and arm strength easily play. He was 93-95 on the mound, mixing in an 81-83 slider and 87 changeup.
