CrossHit Baseball PBR Day Pitcher Evaluations for 17U

Adam Akin
Director of Scouting

The 2016 CrossHit Baseball PBR Day took place on Saturday, December 10 at their new and impressive indoor facility in Gallatin, TN and included a position player workout and pitcher bullpens. Players were afforded the opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of the PBR Tennessee staff. The following is our evaluation of every pitcher from their 17U team that was in attendance.

Dalton Hall, RHP/3B, Beech, 2017
Max FB: 80, FB: 78-80, CB: 66-69, CH: 67-70,
5-foot-10, 205-pound, RHP uses a simple and efficient delivery that remains consistent and produces pretty good rhythm, hands stay high and gets tall at the top of his leg lift, a slight shoulder tilt and a lead with his front hip take him toward the plate, arm action is long and comes through an over-the-top slot, finishes with a slight step toward the 1B side but remains balanced and under control.  Fastball was pretty straight but seemed a little heavy through the zone, curveball showed 12/6 shape with some occasional bite, changeup showed some run and sink at the knees, has the ability to throw all three pitches for strikes.

Bryce Eakes, LHP/OF, Ezell Harding Christian, 2019
60 Time: 7.81, Position Velocity:  OF-78, Exit Velocity: 78
5-foot-10, 150-pound, RHH uses an active motion with a lot of movement, hands drop with rocker step and rise with his leg lift, bigger leg lift gets his front side closed and stays that way throughout his delivery, arm action isn’t too long and comes through a high ¾ slot, lands closed and finishes toward the 1B side.  Fastball had some slight and occasional run, curveball had 1/7 shape with steady movement, changeup was generally straight but would sometimes show some cut when thrown to the left side of the plate.

Joe Worth, RHP/3B, MLK Nashville, 2018
Max FB: 72, FB: 67-72, CH: 61-62, SL: 58-63
5-foot-10, 150-pound, RHP begins his delivery rather slowly, but remains steady and consistent as he builds up to his release, leg lift nearly gets his front side loaded as he begins to lean toward the 3B side to harbor his release angle, arm action is long and loose and slings through a sidearm release point, lands a little closed but gets over his front side and finishes slightly toward the 1B side.  Fastball showed some late run and sink at the plate when kept down in the zone, breaking ball was mostly a sweeping-type slider with 10/4 shape that was thrown for strikes, changeup showed some occasional arm-side run when kept down and away from a lefty.
