East TN College Prospect Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis

The PBR East Tennessee College Prospect Showcase took place on Saturday, January 17 in Knoxville and included some impressive performances from the group of players in attendance.  Over the coming days we will feature evaluations from the event by position group.  The following is a look at the group of corner infielders who were in attendance.  This is position player analysis only.  Those corner infielders who also pitched at the event will have their pitching evaluation featured in a separate article.

Bass Cooper, 2018, 1B, Knoxville Central HS
The 6 foot 3, 175-pound prospect showed very good projectability with a big, athletic build and room to add to his frame, exit velocity off the tee was 89 mph, ran a 4.69 home to first base time,the switch hitter hit from an open stance, had a slight leg kick, smooth load and good balance, generates good bat speed, power type hitter, hits well from both sides of the plate, very advanced hitter for his age. Position velocity across the infield was 74 mph, had soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, big time prospect to keep an eye on.

Ethan Cady, 2016, 1B, McCallie HS
The 6 foot 2, 210-pound prospect has a with a big, strong build, had an exit velocity off the tee of 83 mph, ran a 4.65 home to first base time, hit from an open and spread setup, had a smooth back load, short stride, good balance, fast bat speed, aggressive approach, swing path generates natural lift, power type hitter. Position velocity 82 mph across the infield, had soft hands, good footwork, clean exchange,interesting prospect to keep an eye on with potential to be left-handed power bat at the next level.

Matt Young, 2017, 1B, Maryville HS
The 6 foot 2 , 215-pound prospect showed very good projectability and a big strong presence, had an exit velocity of 83 mph off the tee, ran a 4.69 home to first base time, showed fast bat speed, advanced approach, good balanced setup, short stride, power hitter type that shows power to the pull side, has big potential at the plate. Position velocity was 74 mph across the infield, had soft hands and a clean exchange, overall natural instincts, going to be a player to keep an eye on.

Ryne Baines, 2016, 1B, Happy Valley HS
The 6 foot 3, 180- pound prospect showed good projectability with a big strong built, had an exit velocity of 85 mph off the tee, ran a 4.65 home to first base time, showed fast bat speed, a slight open setup, smooth load with a long stride, average balance, has the potential to be a power type hitter. Position velocity across the infield was 78 mph, showed a quick exchange and average hands, footwork has room to improve, overall could be a guy to keep an eye on as he keeps developing.

Dane Rheinecker, 2017, 3B, Knoxville Central HS
The 5 foot 8, 180-pound prospect  had an exit velocity off the tee of 73 mph, ran a 5.2 home to first base time, had a balanced set up, smooth back load, short stride, good balance, average bat speed, good approach, level path, line drive type hitter. Position Velocity was 76 mph across the infield, had soft hands, good footwork, clean exchange, needs to work on getting quicker.

Sidney Schultz, 2017,1B, Sequatchie County HS
The 6 foot 2 , 175-pound prospect  showed some projectability with lanky frame, had an exit velocity off the tee of 73 mph, ran a 5.2 home to first base time , hit from an open setup, had a short stride, smooth back load, good balance, average bat speed, line drive type hitter , has a tendency to drop his hands at times. Position velocity across the infield was 74 mph, had average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, and natural instincts.
