Chandler Schultz impressed with his performance on the mound last month at the Preseason All-State Showcase, and he has gotten off to a hot start this spring for Ensworth High School.

The 5-foot-11, 155-pound sophomore right-hander shows a quick arm that works through a high-3/4 slot. His fastball sits in the 82-84 mph range, topping at 85, and shows solid arm-side run and late sink through the zone. He shows the ability to consistently locate his fastball at the bottom of the strike zone which should produce ground ball outs. Schultz also showed feel for his 71-72 mph curveball, and his 74-75 mph changeup works well off his fastball with good sinking action.

In Schultz’s first start this spring he worked 6.1 innings against Brentwood Academy, allowing just three hits while recording one strikeout in picking up the win.

His second start of the spring came Saturday against Millington where he allowed two hits and two earned runs in five innings of work with five strikeouts.

Schultz is 2-0 on the season, having allowed just five hits and two earned runs in his 11.1 innings of work. He established himself as a sophomore arm to keep a close eye on at the PBR Tennessee event last month and has solidified that sentiment early this spring.
