Game Report: Wayne County @ Culleoka

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

On Thursday, we traveled to Culleoka to watch their doubleheader against Wayne County.  This was a warm day, with temperatures in the high 50’s and light wind.  The teams split the doubleheader, with Wayne County taking game 1 12-2 and Culleoka taking game 2 8-4.  For a look at some standouts, read below (and check out the Twitter feed for video highlights):

GABE MONTOYA / 3B / RHP / CULLEOKA, TN / 2018

FB (79-83), CB (68-72)

-       5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 9 K

-       4-6, 2 2B

Uncommitted CIF/RHP projects best as a position player.  Medium, stocky frame w/ thick lower half, close to mature.  Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ hand rhythm into toe tap and proper load.  Generates bat speed through the zone w/ natural loft.  Projects to hit for average w/ pull power.  Feel for back-spin.  Defensively, has some stiffness at 3rd base w/ arm strength w/ carry to target.  On the mound, featured a straight FB and power CB that flashed proper shape.  Feel for the strike zone.
