The Kentucky-Tennessee “Border Battle” Showcase made its way to Lexington this year, as some of the top 2020 & 2021 uncommitted prospects from each of those two states got the chance to compete on the pristine new stadium on the campus of the University of Kentucky. Brisk fall weather greeted the young prospects as they looked to show off their talents in front of college coaches as well as a collection of PBR scouts. On the Hunt was in attendance, as the Border Battle has routinely produced some top prospects. Below is an instant analysis from the event:

Josh Castleman OF / LHP / Trinity , KY / 2021

Castleman’s potential to stick in centerfield should have coaches tracking his progress moving forward. The 5-foot-10, 160-pounder began the day by showcasing a quick, strong arm in the outfield that was accurate. He bounced around demonstrating his speed and athleticism as well as impressive ball skills. At the plate, the left-handed hitter looked the part of a potential top of the order bat. He tracked pitches confidently, and showed patience while remaining balanced throughout. His hands work deeper down and back with a leg kick, and quickly work the barrel though the zone on a more direct path that allows him to remain compact utilizing a strong bottom hand well. He smoked a line drive single in his final at-bat after just missing a few pitches all day. Castleman also hopped on the mound where he may have a chance to add some depth to a staff in the future. He has a polished delivery with a quick arm, and the ball appears to jump out of his hand as he was up as high as 81 mph on a dreary day in which most velocities were down. He also flashed some feel for a slider. Overall, Castleman’s high energy and athleticism combined with the potential to impact the game at the top of the order and on defense stood out on the day.
