The PBR Tennessee Fall Top Prospect Games took place on Saturday, November 1, and Evan Porter established himself as Class of 2017 prospect to keep an eye on.
At 6-foot, 195-pounds the Maryville HS product is a solid framed prospect, and he turned in a strong performance, especially on the mound for Team Carbon. Porter’s fastball sat 78-80 mph, topping at 81, above average velocity for his age, but it wasn’t the velocity that turned some heads. His fastball showed some of the best movement of the event with late arm-side run and sink that was clearly effective as he was able to run it in hard on right-handed hitters. Working through a ¾ to high-3/4 arm slot, Porter displayed smooth rhythm and minimal effort in his delivery, and he was able to keep hitters off balance during his outing. His secondary offerings are good quality with near fastball arm speed that include a 69-71 mph breaking ball and a 73 mph changeup with good arm-side fade that he is able to throw for strikes.
The sophomore should continue to see an increase in velocity moving forward, and that coupled with the movement on his fastball make him an intriguing prospect on the mound.
