North Tennessee College Prospect Showcase: Middle Infield Analysis

PBR Tennessee held its inaugural event in the state with the North Tennessee College Prospect Showcase on August 24 at Station Camp High School.  The following is a look at the group of middle infielders in attendance at the event.  Players are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Blake Dutton, 2B/SS, R/R, Carter HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 170 pound prospect posted a 7.35 60-yard dash and 62 tee exit velocity. Throws from the ¾ arm slot. Showed accuracy and clean exchange with 69 mph arm strength across the infield. Hits from a slightly open set up. Tends to bar arm and drop hands. Drove the ball when he barreled it up. Showed pull power potential.

Kyle Gilbert, 2B/3B, R/R, Davidson Academy, 2016
5-foot-10, 160 pound prospect posted a 7.47 60-yard dash and 81 tee exit velocity. Athletic frame and build with athletic actions. Defensively showcased good lateral movement. Stays around the ball and plays through. Showed some erratic accuracy but has some carry on throws to the bag. Short, high ¾ arm slot with 73 position velocity. Strong lower half with good torque. Ball comes off the bat live when he squares it up. Good rhythm and gap power.

Bryce Lester, SS/2B, L/R, Lebanon HS, 2016
5-foot-7, 145 pound prospect ran a 7.38 60-yard dash and 65 tee exit velocity.  Athletic player with some fluid movements. Defensively showed smooth rhythm in his approach to the ball with a clean lower half. Plays through the ball and exchanges quickly. Has a short, ¾ arm action with accuracy and 68 mph arnm strength across the infield. Has a good approach at the plate. Left handed hitter starts with a slightly open stance. Slight toe tap on load. Maintains good balance throughout swing. Uses hands well with an in to out approach. Goes well to opposite field and stays on top of the ball. Showed consistent, solid contact during round of batting practice.

Brock Myers, SS/RHP, R/R, Davidson Academy, 2017
5-foot-11, 150 pound prospect posted a 7.35 60-yard dash time and 80 exit tee velocity. Defensively showed a 75 mph arm across the infield. Good range to both sides. Short, high ¾ throwing action with accuracy and good line carry. Hits from a balanced set up. Slight arm bar that should improve as he gains strength and matures physically. Uses lower half adequately. Good bat speed. Takes a level swing that produces line drives and shows gap power potential.

LaKhari Parker, 2B, R/R, East Nashville HS, 2016
6-foot, 195-pound prospect who shows athleticism in the field. Posted a 7.83 60-yard dash, and 84 mph tee exit velocity.  Defensively, had a good showing. Fielded balls cleanly with a quick, clean transfer and plays through the ball. Moved well to the left and right with athletic actions, 68 mph arm across the infield. Projected 2B .  After making a few adjustments, settled down and squared the ball up well to finish his round of batting practice. A smooth load, short stride combo to go with a level, line drive swing with gap power potential.  Also sprayed the ball to the opposite field. Offensive game and arm will improve with additional strength gains.

Jared Riesterer, 2B/MIF, R/R, Gallatin HS, 2015
6-foot-1, 155 pound prospect posted a 7.34 60-yard dash and 73 tee exit velocity. Throws from the high ¾ position with a loose arm action. Accurate throws to 1st with 72 mph arm strength across the infield. Fielded balls hit at well. Limited range to the glove side. Did make sliding play to the backhand side with accurate throw to first during the defensive portion of work out at showcase. Hits with a spread, balanced stance. Elongated load and stride tempo. Uses hands well and stays inside the ball. Line drive swing path.

James Rockwell, RHP/SS, R/R, Gallatin HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 180 pound prospect posted a 7.47 60-yard dash time and 85 tee exit velocity. Loose high 3/4 arm slot, 76 mph arm strength with on line carry to the bag. Tends to stay back and not play through the ball. Footwork can be heavy but consistently fields and exchanges cleanly. Hits with open stance with slight crouch and short stride. Can generate good bat speed and shows power especially in the gaps. Showcased opposite field approach in batting practice.

Nick Sanders, SS/2B, L/R, Lebanon HS, 2017
5-foot-8, 160 pound prospect posted a 7.64 60-yard dash and 75 tee exit velocity. Compact build with potential to make strength gains. The left handed hitting MIF starts with a balanced setup. Some movement pre load phase. Short stride length with slight uphill path to the ball. Showed a tendency to drop the front side on occasion, but flashed some power in later part of batting practice round. Athletic defensive movements in the field with consistent accuracy. High ¾ arm slot with 69rm strength across the infield.

Kody Timmons, SS/RHP, R/R, Beech HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 152 pound prospect posted a 7.34 60-yard dash time and 80 tee exit velocity. Shows athleticism defensively. Plays through the ball. Short high ¾ release. Showed accuracy and life to throws with 80 mph arm strength across the infield. Feet are quick and he handles the exchange well. Hits from balanced stance. Tends to drop hands when loading. Can create some lift in his swing. Showed gap power.
