Mobile Prospect ID Quick Hits

The Performance Lab in Mobile hosted the Mobile Prospect ID on Sunday, October 6 and the event yielded some impressive performances from area players. Over the next week we will look at each position and give a detailed scout analysis on each player in attendance. Today we are going to highlight 10 players that stood out to the staff. There were others that were very impressive as well and they will be highlighted as well. Keep checking back for more content from the event.

Cole Loftis (2022, RHP/3B, Hayden) Loftis attended as a two way and had a solid day all the way around but he was very impressive on the mound. The FB was up to 81 mph and he showed plus command and nice ASR on the pitch. The arm action is loose and the breaking ball was very sharp, as he showed advanced command of the pitch.

Camden Diamond (2022, RHP, Mobile Christian) Diamond attended as a PO and was impressive on the mound. The '22 grad was up to 80 mph and showed feel for a 3 pitch arsenal. The breaking showed very late bite and the changeup showed nice deception in the low 70's. Very athletic delivery.

Malcolm Pugh (2023, OF/RHP, Leroy) This player showed a multitude of tools and he is only a 2023 grad. The 6'4 190 pounder proceeded to run a 6.64 60, throw 87 mph from the OF and was 84 mph off of the mound. There is some development to take place but simply from a tools standpoint, he was impressive.

Cole Berry (2021, 1B/LHP, Faith Academy) Two way guy with solid actions at the plate and in the field but he was highly impressive on the mound. Sat 81 mph during his pen and created nice down action on the FB from the left side. The breaking ball was very sharp and also showed depth. Does a nice job of repeating his delivery as he also showed a nice changeup. LHP that can get outs.

Zane Steele (2021, C/RHP, Baker, FL) Strong built two way guy that was impressive both as a player and pitcher. Behind the plate he presented an athletic stance and did a nice job receiving pitches. Showed a solid round of BP and then jumped on the mound. The '21 grad was up to 86 mph with the FB showing late life and the breaking was PLUS! One of the better breaking balls we have seen with very tight spin and late action.

Gage Tufnell (2020, 1B/RHP, East Central, MS) Physical looking player at 6'3 185 lbs. Showed nice pull side power at the plate and has some present strength in the hands. On the mound his FB was up to 84 mph and he did a nice job of hiding the ball from hitters. The FB seemed "sneaky" quick from a very loose arm action.

Alex Blackburn (2022, OF/LHP, Baker) Impressive middle of the field approach at the plate as he took a nice round of BP. Also a good runner (6.94) with some bat speed. On the mound, the '22 southpaw showed easy mechanics with a FB up to 79 mph from an over the top arm slot creating nice ASR. Showed nice feel on the mound.

Grant Jay (2022, C/1B, Mobile Christian) This guy just continues to impress. Can obviously hit for power from the right side (95 mph exit velo) and was a sub 7.0 runner (6.92). The arm strength is there as well as he was 83 mph across the IF and 87 mph from the OF. Did not catch at this event but is also a nice catching prospect as well.

Christian Burnette (2023, OF, Faith Academy) Young OF (2023) that showed some strength in the swing which resulted in nice pop off the barrel (85 mph exit velo) and also ran a 6.81 60 yard dash. Athletic young player to follow in the future.

Brendan Guerry (2021, RHP/3B, Fairhope)  Guerry showed nice command on the FB when he was on the mound and was able to command his offseed pitches but he was more impressive with the bat. Showed nice pull side power from a leg kick approach and a 91 mph exit velo reading off a tee. Kept the barrel through contact.
