Prep Baseball Report

On the Recruiting Trail With Knoxville Central 2016 RHP Alex Haynes

By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scouting

Name: Alex Haynes
Position: RHP
Grade: 2016
Height/Weight: 6-foot-3/185-pounds
High School: Knoxville Central
Ranking: 14 in Tennessee's 2016 class and 207 overall

Scouting Notes: At 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, Haynes projects well at the collegiate level.  Pitching for Diamond-Simcox this past summer, Haynes' fastball occasionally reached into the high-80's, but he has shown a recent jump in velocity.  PBR East Tennessee Regional Scouting Director Matt Byrd reports that Haynes topped at 92 mph in a bullpen session two weeks ago.

News:  Haynes will be pitching at the East Tennessee College Prospect ID Showcase on January 17 at Thunder Baseball School in Knoxville.

PBR: What schools have you been hearing from?

Haynes:  I’ve heard from UCF, Wake Forest, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Walters State, and Campbell University.

PBR: Have you developed a relationship with any specific coaches?

Haynes:  I've developed a pretty good relationship with Coach Robinson from Walters State. He always calls and checks up on me with school, baseball, and life in general. If I have any questions about pitching, I can contact him for advice and he'll always give me a good response.

PBR: Have you taken any visits?

Haynes:  I've visited Walters State and Martin Methodist College.

PBR: Do you have any visits scheduled?

Haynes:  I am supposed to be setting up a visit to South Alabama in January.

PBR: Do you have any offers at this stage?

Haynes:  I've been offered by Walters State.

PBR: Do you have a timeline for your recruitment?

Haynes:  My plan is to commit somewhere by July 2015.
