PLUS: Game Report: Richland @ East Robertson

Tim Kay
Associate Scout

On Monday, we headed to East Robertson for their win or go home game against Richland.  Behind a stellar performance from 2021 RHP Peyton Smith (6.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 18 K), East Robertson won it 7-0, using a 4-run 6th to blow the game open.  Read up on Smith and others below:

PEYTON SMITH / RHP / 1B / EAST ROBERTSON, TN / 2021

FB (86-90), CB (73-77), CH (81)

- 6.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 18 K

Sophomore continues to get better every time we’ve seen him, culminating in a dominant outing to keep East Robertson’s season alive.  XL tall, athletic frame w/ some present lower half strength, super projectable.  Has just scratched the surface of his frame potential.  Pitches from a full wind-up into ¾ to L ¾ release from the first base side of the rubber.  Begins w/ pre-set back foot and shoulders creating a straight line to the plate.  Simple, repeatable delivery w/ some effort in the throw.  Super quick arm w/ loose arm action.  Straight FB showed occasional short cut, occasional ride through the zone.  Tight medium downer CB w/ late bite, flashed average depth.  Slurve at times, true SL life at other times.  Shows feel to spin the baseball regardless of how you want to define it, flashed above average.  Mixed in one CH, arm-speed w/ short fade and sink.  Around the zone, more control than command at this stage, 73 of 103 for strikes.  Shows feel for his secondary stuff, 17 of 26 for strikes.  Projects to command w/ a chance for 3 above average or better pitches.
